Might move to texas,,,any advice for nursing schools?

U.S.A. Texas

I currently live in the bay area in ca and i was hoping to move to texas where my sister lives :yeah:. I currently am almost finish with prereqs for nursing. Any advice on schools with BSN or ADN's in the dallas area (Carrolton)? Also are they very competitive to get into? Here in northern ca, you can almost get into medical school before you can get into the nursing program:chuckle due to the high salaries the nurses here earn. Thanks in advance!!

Farmers Branch (right by Carrollton) has an ADN program at Brookhaven. http://www.brookhavencollege.edu/instruction/h-h-services/nursing/

There's also an ADN program at El Centro, downtown, not too far...

both have a different process to entry into the nursing program. Brookhaven is by a points system, read through the website and you'll find all the info you need, El Centro is strictly on GPA and # of support courses taken. At Brookhaven, I think the lowest number of points they accepted this last semester was 27, but there's been times when it's above 30! El Centro the lowest GPA this application period was 3.6, there have been times when they only accepted 4.0's and times when the GPA was much lower. They are both competitive to get in, due to the number of applicants, but not impossible. I got in on my first time to apply.

I went to TCU in Ft Worth and I looooved it. They have a great BSN (my track) and a great ADN program as well.. plus CRNA if you go that route. I've also heard good things about TWU, and those that went to TCC liked it, but that's a community college program. TCU is a private school so it's a little more expensive, but I thought it was worth it because they prepared me so well with the smaller classes and clinicals.

I went to Texas Womans University in Houston but they have a campus in Dallas and Denton. I graduated in 1978 so I am not sure what it is like now. I felt I received a good education there and I felt prepared when I graduated.

Here are a handful of nursing schools in and around DFW and East Texas. Some of them might require a lengthy commute. Then again, I know of people who drive long distances to realize their dreams of becoming a nurse.

1. Tarrant County College, Fort Worth

2. El Centro College, Dallas

3. Brookhaven College, Farmers Branch

4. Tarleton State University, Stephenville

5. Weatherford College, Weatherford

6. Hill College, Cleburne

7. Navarro College, Corsicana

8. Trinity Valley Community College, Kaufman

9. North Central Texas College, Gainesville

10. Northeast Texas Community College, Mount Pleasant

11. Grayson County College, Denison

12. Paris Junior College, Paris

13. Angelina College, Jasper

14. Texarkana College, Texarkana

15. Cisco Junior College, Abilene

16. McLennan College, Waco

17. Texas Christian Univ., Fort Worth

18. UT Arlington

I say go to Tarrant County College (TCC) for their 2 year ADN program, then transfer to UTA for 2 more semesters for the BSN. That is my plan.
