Sorry, that last post was supposed to be for scrambiegg :)

@ scrambiegg good job.i take mine of the 20th of august.pls how was the critical thinking section? and also u said u were nt supposed to take chem but it was there so u had to take it, my question is i am nt required to take chem, chemistry, biology, does it mean if i see it on the test i have to take it or can i skip it? that way i can start to study for it.thanks.

@chizzy05, You will see ALL sections of the Hesi listed when you sit down to take the test. It is your responsibility to know which sections to take for your particular school. Trust me, I learned this the hard way. I took sections I didn't need to take and ran out of time on sections that I did need to take. Only take the sections that are required by your school and skip over the rest. Chemistry, Biology and Physics are all individual sections of the Hesi, so if you don't have to take them, don't.

thanks @ katybusymum, i appreciate it

@VRC1: I did take the Grammar and Vocab sections. I studied for these from the HESI study guide and I feel that was a decent way to prepare. There were a few words that I had no idea on, and there were some questions where I knew the word but didn't like the options to choose from. Overall, working through the study guide and the practice tests seemed to be very good preparation for these sections. I thought the vocab was more difficult than the grammar. If you have a decent understanding of grammar and the English language, I believe you will be successful on the grammar part. I really believe the study guide was very beneficial in studying for these sections.

@ Chizzy05: Okay, pretty much I had no idea what to expect or what I was doing when I went in to take the test. I was not supposed to have to take chemistry, physics, or critical thinking. Of those, only chemistry was on the screen with the exams I was supposed to take. The people in the testing center had no idea whether or not I should take it, so I did anyway. I really did not need to, but I decided not to take that chance at the time. I did notice someone commented before that it may be a good idea to take them incase other schools require different sections. I guess that is up to you.

As far as the time: Four hours was plenty to complete the exam. I do not take tests quickly and I was worried. I decided to do the sections that I thought would be the longest first. Math took me over an hour, so I was very nervous about time after that. Reading comp took me probably about 45 minutes. The rest of the sections move quickly and I finished in about 3 hours without really rushing. I did not have to take critical thinking. There is a timer on the screen so you know where you stand timewise.

I don't think there is way to go back once you answer a question, so know that once you submit your answer, that's your answer.

Some things that I was nervous about: Do you have paper and pencils? The testing center provides you with dry erase markers and sheets to write on. If you fill them up, they will replace them with blank sheets.

I was very nervous about the exam. I think not knowing what to expect was the worst. I don't mind answering questions to help ease the process for anyone else, so ask away. Good luck to all!!

good luck everyone

Hello Everyone,

I am taking my hesi entrance exam August 30th! I am soo nervous, mostly about biology.. I have taken a&p 1, but not the 2nd corse.. I studied like crazy for those sections.. I know the basics and a little more.. BUT, biology... never my strong point... anyone know if you are asked a lot of questions on the kingdom, phylum, class, order ect...?! Was it really in depth because I never exactly got that portion of biology :) THANKS EVERYONE!

do you need to take biology? very few schools require it, have you checked with your school?

i do unfortunately :( everything except physics chamberlain told me :(

here's my two cent from recently take the Hesi Last week

First off the hardest part of this test is VOCABULARY, basically if you don't have a good solid foundation of vocab by now, you are struggling..like me. Now this doesn't mean you won't get lucky and get a few of the words right by guessing, but I assure you that you will be playing it very close to the percentage you will need to get into your school if you don't know a decent amount of vocabulary words. The evolve hesi book will have most of the words, but not all and may be tricky. I got a 74% and needed a 75%, I was very dissapointed and will be retaking it again tomorrow, however since I wasn't that far ahead of the required score, it is very possible that I may score even lower the second time around. I didn't use Quizlet to help me, but again trying to learn a few words isn't going to help much at this point b/c it could be on anything.

about the other sections, Math (which I'm good at) I got a 94%, everything you will be tested on will be in that book, know those problems. also know how to solve for x, like ratio problems and know your conversions. Take at least an hour out to learn those conversion for good.

Grammar, this section starts off very easy, its basically questions where you need to correct a sentence etc. Very few questions if any asks you about finding a verb or adjective etc. Most of the time you will get a question saying " She walked to the store today" what will correct this sentence?

Reading is dreadful but easy, i took this second so I can be fully alert to take this part of the test instead of waiting till the end. get your reading out of the way first b/c it takes a long time!

A&P- don't over stress this, know the basics like name of the front side of the body, back side etc, like what is the distal end, and alot of of anatomy 2 stuff as well but i assure you its all the basic stuff, so get a dummy's book, you will be fine. the only nerve wrecking part is the fact that its only 30 questions, so you can't miss too much!

i scored an overal 82% which is enough to get into the program but i needed to pass each section with a 75%. I'm a straight "A" student but the vocab is killing me since I don't really focus on that too much. I suppose I should , seeing how I would need to take the GRE soon too :(

That score is still great! I got a 86.8% on my hesi.... i also bombed vocab... with a score of 75%. Everything else was either mid to high 80's and a 97 in math and a 94 in chemistry....... STUDY YOUR VOCAB!!!!
