Help please! am a new nurse.

U.S.A. Texas

Published

hi everyone.

i am a Filipina who just graduated this April from a Nursing school in the Philippines and came to Houston just this June after taking the local Nursing Licensure Exam via fiance visa (my mom married an American guy and since im under 21, i was included). and i am wondering if there are kind hearted nurses (Filipinos, or not) in Houston who are nice enough to help me and give me information about the process of applying for a job in Texas, or recommend someone who could help.

i've visited the texas BON website and learned that there are certain requirements for NCLEX. i've already applied in CGFNS for the CES report and as of this moment we are still waiting for my transcript of record from the school to reach CGFNS office.

now i was wondering, what do you recommend that i should do while waiting for the processing of my application for CGFNS? i mean, i've been here in US for 6 months now and i feel like my nursing skills and basic knowledge are slowly wearing off.hehe after our graduation, then the nurse's licensure exan in the Philippines, i haven't done any training or practicum of some sort.

also, in order to apply or work as a nurse in Houston hospitals, is there a need for me to undergo training (e.g IV training, CPR, etc.) or have credentials of some sort?

to have a nursing-related job, i have to have a license to practice right?

and, since i'm already here in the US, do i still have to take the english proficiency exam?

well, thanks for reading this. and i hope that you would help me.:yeah: i'll be waiting for your reply, it would be greatly appreciated. thanksomuch!! :D

hi!

im a new grad too from the PHIL, just this march 09.

but ive been here quite long even before school ended.

i am currently reviewing for NCLEX..

regarding your question about applying for a job in houston,

u can always work as a graduate nurse,

given,, u have requested for an interim permit/ work ( am not so sure what its called) to work as a GN from texas BON when you applied for your state license.

GN permit is needed if you apply to those hospitals which offers GN programs.. (MHH, Methodist, St. Lukes etc.. etc.)

about what you should do while waiting,

you can always find a job (if you want to) in some nursing homes, assisted living facilities (some requires certificates tho even if you're a BSN)

or.. other jobs- non health care related.

and yes, you need a license to work as RN.

by the way, have you applied for state board in tx?

how is it going?

you might wanna try reviewing while waiting for your eligibility and ATT..

anyways, welcome in HOUSTON! :)

so, are you working right now or only reviewing for NCLEX?

i haven't sent my application for NCLEx yet, i'm still waiting for my ToR to reach CGFNS for the CES report.

i bought a book/reviewer for NCLEx which is what i'm reading/studying.

i'm just worried, because my batch mates in the Phil have already gone through or are undergoing training and seminars and all in preparation for their future job applications.

so, are you working right now or only reviewing for nclex?

-im only reviewwing for nclex, im taking next month

it's because in the phil, you have to undergo training and have other credentials for greater possibility of having a job.

how long did it take for your application to be processed? where in the philippines are you from anyway?^^

Hi you two! :D

Don't worry too much.

You'll know what to do once you pass the nclex exam. ;D

My sister also graduated from a nursing school back home last 2008.

She took the nclex exam last July and she just started working last September.

wow just a month? my school sent my transcript to CGFNS last Sept, and untill now my order status haven't changed yet.

so you're now practicing nursing in texas?

about the GN permit, I don't think foreign graduates are granted temporary authorization to practice nursing. I read it in TX bon website, but now i can't seem to find that part.

oh iloilo. I'm from the Ilocos province. :D

Specializes in OR.

I am from india .First you have to receive your CGFNS report and forward one directly from CGFNS to BON along with your NCLEX exam application. After all verification they will send you the permission letter to write exam. Then you apply for ATT in the pearson vue. After receiving your ATT ,you can select a date to write exam. After getting your RN license you can apply for job, being 3 years experienced i struggled too much to get a job here in Texas, because they are in need of US experience. For english proficiency ,you need not to take any exam but you have to prove them that you can read ,write, and speak english well. Its all about my experience i am saying.Study well for exam and do more questions.ALL depends on your knowledge and confidence. All the bestmb_0020_lowres_5x7_fc_shadow.jpg

dibuho: Do I understand that you DID NOT take the Nursing Licensure Exam in the Philippines? I thought Texas required you to be licensed in the country that you graduated from? I'm graduating in March with a BSN from the Philippines but have no plans on working in the Philippines but I've read that Texas requires you to be licensed in the country that you graduated from if your a foreign grad. Can you please let me know how you did it? Thanks in Advance.
