Heading to Texas

Hello I am a nursing student in the northeast, my wife and I want to move to Texas to be closer to our families. I was hoping that some of you out there can give me some information. We would like to relocate to the austin or San antonio area. Does anyone know of any nurse residency programs in these areas. What about wages for new nurses. I have a long history in EMS and would like to stay in this field or in critical care. I know that this may sound ambitious for a new grad, but that is where my heart is. Austin is a very pretty city with an elevated cost of living (by Texas standards, anyway) and lower nursing wages. San Antonio is a charming city with low wages (due to the multitude of nursing schools) and a super-low cost of living.

I am a BSN student. My husband & I moved here from the northeast also. I have been very happy in the Houston area. We live in a suburb outside of Houston and there seems to be fair pay rates in the Texas Medical Center area (at least compared to where I lived before). The major hospitals have various graduate nurse programs a few times a year. The housing here is great! Compared to New England prices - you can't beat it. We ended up with 1000 more square feet for less money! :smiley_aa :smiley_aa :w00t:
