HCC Spring 2012-Houston Community College

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hi Everyone,

I'll be applying for HCC Spring 2012. I was intending on taking my prerequisites in the Fall, but I've decided to knock out A&P II and Micro this summer to avoid any complications in the application process. I'm getting conflicting reports that prereqs have to be complete BEFORE the application is due, then others say that I'm allowed 1 course in progress. Not sure, so just to be on the safe side I've opted to register for both courses over the summer.

I hope this thread will bring together all the Houston Community College Spring 2012 applicants.

Goodluck Everyone:D

Hopeful_2013,

I just read that your Pharmacology class met twice a week?!?! Are you serious?? My schedule only says Monday evenings. Is there something that I'm missing?? Please tell me that's not going to change when class starts. :(

If anyone is interested in the Skyscape Nursing Constellation Plus app, I have a link that I am happy to share that brings it down from the original price of 209.00 to the sale price of 179.95 down to 155.00. It's a great app with TONS of useful information for both clinicals and coursework. If you interested just PM me and I will send you the link.

CareAngel, I believe all classes will meet one day a week this semester.

I hope you're right MC93. :uhoh21: I'm working full-time right now, and I don't plan to ditch this job until I'm officially in the program. I don't know if I can afford twice a week, although if I have to, I will.

No way we meet twice a week. It would have been indicated on the schedule when we signed up for RNSG 1301. The schedule says we meet once a week depending on what times you choose.

Where's everyone buying books for RNSG 1301??? I haven't checked out Central Campus for prices but I'll head down there this week.

3xmom,

Thanks for the tip. I think I'm gonna have to wait on that right now. It sounds like a good deal, but I don't think I can afford it at this time. I'll keep it in mind.

I completely understand!! Keep my user name handy and if you decide to do it after loans and grants arrive just PM me, the link (according to who gave it to me), is good for awhile still--if nothing else it is at least worth a try versus paying full price!

Hey Chunky Munkey!

I went to Half Price Books online and purchased the Calculate with Confidence book for $58.45 (new) ---> total price plus shipping came to $62.44. I think I'm gonna purchase the Pharm book from the HCC Bookstore. I was told by Hopeful_2013 that we will be using the access codes, and in order to get those, you would have to purchase a NEW book. HOWEVER, you can purchase access codes if you decide to buy a USED book. After I did the math, it seemed more reasonable to purchase the book NEW. I think the access codes are around $40.00. Besides, the NEW book comes in a bundle/package with other stuff, at least that's what the chick at the bookstore told me. So I think you get more bang for your buck if you buy NEW (even though half the time professors never use that extra stuff that come in the bundle).

to all,

btw....if you all want to know who your teacher is, call any of the hcc bookstores and ask "can you please tell me what books i'll need for rnsg 1301 section #####??" once they are in their computer system, then ask "while you're in there, can you tell me who the teacher is?" they have access to that information because certain professors require different material. this is something i found out by accident.

My class met Mondays and Wednesdays at 9am-12pm. Just check your schedule again, sometimes the other time just pops up out of nowhere. Also, if you meet in the evening, how long does the class last? How many hours an evening?

Wait... They might be doing it different for you all. I know that when I start school, our first semester is only going to be 8 weeks and then we start clinicals in October. Talk about a big time rush! I hope I learn something in those fast-track 8 weeks of chaos :D They said it seems too much, but it will help us out in the end. I guess to be taught more before we go to clinicals.

Good luck this semester, everyone!
