Does the State of Texas RN scope of Practice allow Nurses to AROM and Place IUPC? I have researched this, looked in the BON-TX and have not found a definite answer. I have been told and worked with nurses that have placed an IUPC but was also told the opposite that we cannot place IUPC. I currently work in a small hospital and I would like to know what is the State Scope of Practice in regards to this Issue.

I know in my hospital they allow RN's to place IUPC's if the patient is already ruptured (not allowed to AROM). It's a special skill you have to get checked off on so not everyone does it.

Thanks L&DRN03. The reason I asked was because I have been told conflicting facts about it and I know certain hospitals its a skill that needs to be checked. I am currently a travel nurse and would prefer to know what the texas BON says about this in regards to the Scope of Practice because If I am reading it correctly, it's not part of our scope of practice to put in IUPC.

I honestly don't think so either but not positive one way or the other. One of the reasons why I elected not to get checked off on it.
