Anyone from the West Texas area?

U.S.A. Texas

Hello all...I'm pretty bored:) So I was wondering if anyone around here is attending nursing school or will be starting in August from the west Texas area, especially in Odessa. Just curious. Thought I might get lucky and someone who was starting the LVN program this fall at the Andrews extension of Odessa College. Probably not, but I'll try. It's killing me that I don't know who any of my classmates will be. Orientation isn't til July 7th. Ok, well thanks in advance for any replies.:)

Hi neighbor!

I am applying to Midland College and the Andrews branch of Odessa College for the LVN classes. I live in Midland and therefore hoping to get in here, but if I don't have enough points, I'll be joining you in Andrews. :balloons:

lol, oh wow, I wasn't expecting a response at all! So have you already applied at the Andrews extension or will you be applying for the 2005-2006 school year?

My daughter is just finishing at the Andrews extension. Not exactly what you wanted to know, but she says they are great. She has told me many times if you can make it through Stacy and Patricia you can make it through any program, any test, any where. Good luck to you. CRB613

I will be going for the 2005-2006 schoolyear. It is looking much more probable that I'm getting in here in Midland now that some time has passed. I took some courses to get some more 'points' to get in here locally and looks like I'm going to pull it off just fine. :)

aw, yes..Patricia and Stacy seemed like a couple of tough cookies when I went in for my interview. They seem like they will be wonderful though. Congrats to your daughter! Do you mind me asking....when will they finish? I was curious because they bumped our start date from the Aug. 23rd to Aug. 11. So, I am guessing they finish in July?

Well, that's awesome! When I am done with my LPN program, I will be trying to get into the Midland ADN program. I like the curriculum better than the one here at OC. Plus, I just want a change. Hopefully I will have enough points w/all of my pre-reqs done...seems like it.

That's exactly my plan, but maybe not here in the West Texas area at all. In case you weren't aware, Midland requires you to have 6 months on the job training as an LVN to go to the LVN to ADN transition program. I hope that doesn't burst your bubble! You certainly will have enough points I'd think without a problem. The program is so new here that the competition thing for points isn't bad in the transition program yet like it is in the regular LVN and RN classes.

If I'm still here in the area, we may be going through that transition program together here in Midland. That would be cool!

When I spoke to Patricia's assistant last she said there was still two openings for the fall. Do you know if those are filled yet? I find out on the 9th if I get in here for the fall. If not, I'll be starting there on the 11th if they haven't filled up. If they have, then I will just start getting all my prereques in for the RN program and go straight into that one, skipping the LVN altogether.

I have no idea whether or not they have been filled. I did get a letter yesterday about orientation...it is next week on the 7th. It would be cool if you could find out this week. They said orientation is mandatory. Wow, you are in a rough spot. Doesn't seem like they are giving you much room to decide which direction you want to go, the dates practically run into each other. Good luck on that. As, far as the 6 months of work experience is concerned...I'll probably have that...I think:chuckle Geesh, who knows.

Wow, that's right! :uhoh21: What time is the orientation and how long is it? I have class from 10:30-1:00 Wednesday. I am actually taking 3 classes on this Summer I semester. It is A LOT, but it's what I had to do to get the right points hopefully to get in.

It starts at 9 am. It doesn't say what time it ends, but it says we will be having a luau, lol...including lunch, games, prizes, and a costume contest? LOL, so I am guessing this is an all day affair.

Yes, sounds like it! If I didn't need the points so badly, I would skip that day just for the fun! LOL It would've been nice to meet you in person there, too.

I really feel that God has helped get me in here in Midland. I felt God's presence all over me there when I was talking to people and stumbled upon all the info I needed that God put in my path to show me that He would make sure I got enough points to get in. I will just follow His direction and have to pass on the orientation and the back-up plan on getting in at OC if I don't get accepted here. I am just trusting in Him.

BTW, I checked out the pics of your niece and she is SUCH a doll! Also, feel free to email me personally any time. My email is [email protected]. I can't get to it everyday, but when I catch up a little on studying, then I can chat.
