Hey everyone I just have a few questions about working at Vanderbilt.

Do they do self scheduling?

Do they have uniform scrubs or can you wear whatever kind you want?

What is the nurse/patient ratio on the different units?

What is your favorite and least favorite thing about being a employee?

There are alot of us new nurse residents who are probably asking these same questions so any and all advice or tidbits would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!!

They do self schedule, it's computerized. But, you usually have to work a certain number of weekends or certain days during the week. You also have to do on call days, which sucks...but you'll have to find out from your unit manager what you're required to do. It's actually a nice system, even though I did complain about my schedule sometimes. The manager will likely change it around to meet needs, which is expected.

They used to have blue scrubs that everyone wore (you could call & get them for free), but they don't allow that anymore. So, basically you need to buy your own scrubs. (unless you're in the OR). You can't wear denim scrubs. All other colors are ok. And you can wear any tee-shirt you want with your scrub pants.

Other questions, you're manager should have told you. Good luck! I really enjoyed working at Vandy, I left a few months ago to try travel nursing. Lots of new nurses, and it's an awesome place imo to start your career. You've made the right choice.

Thanks so much neurorachel. That is actually my plan too. I want to get a few years experience under my belt and then do travel nursing for a couple of years. Are you happy with your assignments so far? I just got the acceptance letter emailed to me last week so I don't even know where I will be working or who my manager is yet. The Residency Program doesn't even start until Jan 26th but I'm already excited. Any other tips you have to offer? I hear parking is a real mess is that true?
