St Thomas Hospital

Specializes in Emergency Dept, ICU.

Well I must say a warning to all nurses looking for future employment at St Thomas Hospital. The conditions have been rapidly deterating at select units at this hospital.

Several units suffer low staffing and poor management not because of the lack of nurses, but due to ascension health's (who now owns St Thomas, Baptist, and MTMC) intent to save money. By not posting positions and cutting the staff they already have. This is jeopardizing patient safety and although mgmt and corporate are aware of this, they do not care.

The emergency department for example answers to the chief financial officer, not nursing administration. This is in a effort to save money. A financial advisor with no patient care experience or concern now oversees the emergency department. Not to mention the staff manager and educator have quit.

The special care unit also suffers from poor staffing and of the nurses they do have 90% are new grads. Special care is a step down ICU. :(

I am just warning you, they pay the nurses they do hire high salaries, but this may not be what you expect when you sign up.

Specializes in Clinical Risk Management.
