Roane State Community College RN Program

U.S.A. Tennessee

Hello everyone!

A newbie here at allnurses. Let me say this is a very informative and useful community for anything nursing.

On to my questions about getting into Roane State's RN program.

I just took the HESI pre-entrance exam for the program and to my surprise did better than I expected (Mainly I worried about the math section since it has been a few years since my last math course), and made an overall composite score of 89.83%. For the math section I scored 84% (The only thing that killed me was measurement conversions like how many ounces in a gallon, which I totally forgot how to do, but have done in the past and can easily freshen up on) and on reading a 95.65%. Is this a good enough score and how does it rank with any others who have taken this test (What's considered the "passing" score anyway since Roane State doesn't specify)? Will it be competitive enough when the board is deciding who gets into the program?

Next, I was wondering how competitive my other credentials are. I've taken all of the required prerequisites except A&P 1 and Developmental Psych which I'm enrolled in this semester, and A&P 2 and Microbiology, which I plan to take in this upcoming Spring semester. So far I've made all A's except for College Algebra, which I made a B in. I feel this was due to a poor instructor who really didn't know how to explain things in a simple format. As far as A&P 1 and Developmental Psych, I think I can get A's in them as well as so far I've been pulling A's on all of the work. My current GPA is 3.75, and if I do well in the classes this semester I can bring it up to a 3.83. They require you to have at least 12 of the total 27 pre-requisite hours in before applying, and in my case I'll have 19 in and will get the remaining 8 in this coming Spring semester. I know they do a points system on all of this, and whether they look at all of the classes and the grade you made in them, I don't know, but does all of this stuff give me a good chance?

In all, I guess what I'm trying to find out is how good of a chance does it look like I have of being accepted into the program? Is my information average, above average, what's everyone's experience with this? I know it is so competitive to get in and I'm just worried about not getting accepted this time around despite my hard efforts. Enough of my long post...I think everyone gets where I'm coming from. I apologize for my post being so long, but there's just a lot on my mind pertaining to this matter and I hope all of you who have been through it can weigh in!

Thanks everybody in advance! :)

know fractions, know conversions, know roman numerals, know military time.. thats all i remember on the math part. Know your reading part of the study book. its not that bad but practice the problems in the study guide.. helped me out alot GOOD LUCK!!!!!!

Thank you... well I did it today and made a 90 on the math and a 88 on the reading comp. Cumulative grade was a 89 so whats that convert to an is that a pretty good score?

Pretty sure that's what mine was. They don't look at the score just that you passed it! Congrats!

oh awesome. Thanks

I didnt get accepted last year. I passed to HESI with a 97% or something like that but all they look at is that you passed. I had A's in 12 hours of nursing pre-reqs including College Algerbra, an B in Comp I, and a C in A&P I. My Gpa they way I figured was a 3.42 plus I would have gotten 2 points for my A in math. :( I reapplied over the summer and am hoping to get in 2012. I retook A&P II and Micro and am shooting for a B at minimum. I wonder if they calculate your points by GPA + #hours completed + extra points for A and B in sciences or GPA + extra points?

If I'm not mistaking, they have a points scale. A=2 B=1 and C=0. I think they add that up and put it with your hesi score and see who has the most "points". I may be wrong but I believe thats how they do it.

yeah they give you those points for your Math, both A&P's and i think that's it. i am almost done with my first semester. I had A's in all sciences and a C in my math. good luck to y'all on getting in!
