Did you go to the nursing meeting Oak Ridge had the other day? Well, It was a meeting about the whole admissions process. They said that they look at your overall gpa in prereq's ONLY (for example, she said if you took phisics and got an "A", it doesn't count because it is not a prereq). You will get extra points for "A" earned in a&p I and II and college algebra. The entrance exam is just a passing grade of 75% or more. It is competative, but you do have a good gpa and you passed the entrance exam. Don't worry too much. I have to eat my own words, because I'm applying for 2011 also. Just try to do the best you can in your a&p class, and you should be fine.

Oh, they also said this past year they had 653 applicants - only 213 were actually qualified, and out of the 213 they chose 160. For the fall of 2011 they are only choosing 120.

Also, I forgot - If you are applying for fall 2011, they only consider completed classes in the fall of 2010. This is due to the fact that they make their decsion before spring grades are in.

I might be able to help a little bit, I started the nursing program this past August. You have to pass the HESI with at least a 75% and it doesnt matter how high you score, they don't look at that.

As far as pre-reqs go, they weigh your science and math credits more than the other pre-reqs. They go by a point system, if you make an A in a math/science course you get 2 points, if you make a B in them you get 1 point. So you want to do your best in those classes. The comment above is also correct, they will cut off grades at the end of Fall semester. So if you are planning on taking ap2 and micro in the spring they will not count. They have between 600-800 applicants apply every year and as the comment above says they automatically cut quiet a few people because they don't qualify (didnt pass their entrance exam, didnt take college algebra, etc.) so once those have been taken out of the batch they start comparing everyone. I'm not sure about them accepting 160 people, if that's true we have lost quiet a bit. I don't think that they accepted that many but I may be wrong. It would be a really good idea to go to one of the nursing meetings, they have a lot of great advice and can answer any questions you may have.

Also if it helps, I had all of my pre-reqs done except AP2 and micro (I took one in the spring then the other in the summer) so those did not count. I made an A in all of my classes except Algebra, I made a B. After I found out I was accepted I made a B in ap 2 and micro. I was at a little disadvantage because I didnt have those two classes in before the deadline, but I'm sure they take that into consideration especially if you are registered for them. Good Luck!! hey can i ask your gpa when excepted? i have all pre classes done all A's in sciences but a c in math, i took it 7 yrs ago when i just didnt care and i have 5 a's out of all pre classes. and 2 b's. i passes my hesi with a great score. i'm just terrified my math will keep me out.

To be honest I'm not sure what my gpa was. I have been in college for quiet a while so all of my grades are all thrown in there, but they only go by your gpa for prenursing classes, but I can tell you that I had all A's except for math I had a B. I did not have ap2 or micro complete by the deadline, I was still accepted and ended up with a B in those. Do you still have a C in math?? They weigh heavily, so if you can retake it I would. One of my friends had straight A's, even in math and made a C in psychology and did not make it in this year.

yeah, i really dont want to retake it but since its too late for this time , if i dont get in i will retake it. I dont see how she couldnt have gotten in. all a's? did she have all her classes done? i feel like i have a pretty good shot at gettin in. if i dont i think i will just go for BSN possibly i'll have a whole year to work on it lol

I'm not sure why she didnt get in?? She didnt have ap2 or micro like me. We were in ap2 spring semester which doesnt count, then going to take micro in the summer. She is reapplying this Fall. You've got a great shot, good luck :)

I just graduated from RSCC nursing program this last May and I can tell you they did take 160 applicants the year I started in 2007. I was dropped at the beginning of the 2008 year for not passing the semester math taest that they give every semester until graduation, (I missed by 2 lousy points!) but I got back in because my nursing grades were good and my clinicals evals were excellent too. They may be taking less people for the Fall because they don't have enough instructors to handle 160 this time around. I think I got in because I had all my prereqs done except English Comp 1 before I applied. Don't worry to much about the math grade (I got a C, and I took Probability and Statistics instead of College Algebra) they just require you to have that class done to apply, not that you ace it. I think being an older student helped me also, because they knew I would be more responsible, if that makes sense? Honestly sometimes I think I got in by the grace of God, lol! Good Luck to you!

i think they are only taking 120 this year. wish they had a list on the comp to see where you stand since everything is done through the computer now. they should be able to do that lol i just wish it was may already. so to those who just started this fall how is it? is it the nightmare everyone always says it is? i really hope i get in, i've worked really hard for it.
