Knoxville, TN RN's

U.S.A. Tennessee

I'm in the process if moving to TN in the Knoxville area and I'm wondering what kind of pay I can expect for 9+ years of experience at the hospitals around Knoxville or Oak Ridge area.

Knoxville and the surrounding areas have very low pay compared to other places. All major hospitals start new grads at a base rate of 18-20hr. Im not sure how much you would be making with your experience but don't let this discourage you because while the pay is low you also have to remember that Knoxville has one of the lowest costs of living in the country and TN has no income tax.

TN has no income tax? I'm considering relocating to TN from MI I've heard there is no property tax in TN, but didn't know about no income tax? Do you have any other words of wisdom or advice? I was looking at the knoxville, or surrounding counties like Maryville, Kingston or Morristown. Was looking at postings for University of TN memorial, I've heard since they're magnet they'll pay for you to get your BSN which I'm being pushed by my place of work now with very minimal tuition assistance. And if you're an employee your dependents can get education assistance? Do you know anything about this or recommend or not recommend hospitals in those areas? Thanks for any additional advice you may have. And OP, how has your move gone? Have you moved yet? What have you learned if you have that is worth passing on?

We have property and sales tax but, no income tax. Other than ut the major hospital systems are covenant health and tennova, most of the hospitals are with either of them.

I'm thinking our property tax is pretty low though compared with other areas, mine is only $319 a year.

Wow in MI my property tax was $2400 last year. And that's much lower than other surrounding areas.

If you are wanting to work in Knoxville then living in Kingston or Morristown would be quite a long drive. Maryville is nice and expanding quickly and is close to Knoxville, especially UT Med Center. You are correct in that UT is moving towards magnet status and will pay for your education. I believe if you get hired as an ASN you have to sign a contact to complete your BSN in 2-3 years. As for the hospitals in the area Lindsey is correct in saying that all the hospitals are UT med center, Covenant (Fort Sanders, Park West, Methodist) as well as many more outside of Knoxville, and the several Tennova locations. The only places I have experience at are UT, Fort Sanders and Park West and found all to be great and would recommend them. Tennova is for profit and I have heard both good and bad things about it so I couldn't tell you either way. I think you would really enjoy Knoxville and good luck!
