Advice for TEAS V

  1. 1
I have been studying the ATI study guide for TEAS V and I did quite a bit better on the second practice test in that book than I did a week before on the first one. But tonight I paid for one of the online versions of the practice TEAS V and it was BY FAR AND AWAY more difficult. Wildly more difficult! The science stuff just blew me away and I just got done with all my science pre-reqs and got straight A's in them all!

I was so discouraged and demoralized. I take the real test on Friday morning and I am overwhelmed with how to approach preparing the next couple days. (I got about a 85% on the book's practice exam and only a 76% on the online one. And that is REALLY cutting it close to get into the school I'm applying to; it requires 75%.) It's official: I'M FREAKING OUT!

Any advice will be VERY welcome.

Those stupid online practice tests are EVIL!!!! I am serious, I got like in the 60s on that thing. I cried and almost didn't take the test. The real test was much easier and I did a million times better on the real one. If you got a 75% on the online assessment, I am confident you'll do well on the real one

Does it give you a break down of you percentages by section? (real TEAS does) review the areas you performed poorly on and ignore those you did really well on (90% right and higher).
Also the science stuff will be hit or miss. Questions about specific heat capacities or geologic strata classification and the like will show up and that is 8th grade stuff you should have remembered (but didn't). Concentrate on what you can control; know the English and math.

Thanks, gc1010. I'm going back to my percentages--the practice test does break it down--and going from there. I made only a couple mistakes that I would term "stupid mistakes." One on reading, one on English (!), and a couple on math. That's 4 points, though, which really makes a difference on a test like this! So I will be taking more time with the real test. Someone on here mentioned the importance of reading EVERY answer before choosing. It's basic but sound advice, I find.

The science portion, though...that part I answered each question to the very best of my ability, but missed 19, despite feeling prepared! I am concentrating on DNA/RNA, genes, chromosomes, Mitosis/Meiosis, and though I think it's probably going to yield diminishing returns, chemical properties of elements. I think the new test doesn't have geology stuff on it--my practice didn't, and neither does my official study manual--so I'm not worrying about that.

    Hi

I heard teas V is difficult than Teas 4.0. I took teas 4.0 in november. I did really well on that. I am apppylying for my school this semester for fall 2011. My school made some changes regarding teas test. Where are you applying??? I was looking for thread for the applicant who are applying for ADN at SJ delta college this semester, but i could not find any related threads.

I can personally say the actual exam is easier.

I made consistent 75's on the practice exams and ended up making 85 on the actual exam!

My suggestion is take entire days to study. I only used the exam book supplied by the website and I studied a solid 5 days (one day/section plus a practice exam day) leading up to it.

Its best to go over your practice exams and really learn about the topics that you are fuzzy on. Just memorizing facts is not going to cut it!

    Hey...
I just took the Teas V today. The online test is VERY similiar to the actual one...It is way more involved than the book practice test. The concepts taught in the ATI book, especially science are at a much higher level of application than just the basic definitions given in the book. I studied from the kaplan book as well...I think that helped. This is a second degree for me..graduated with honors with BSED..but that was 15 years ago. I studied and studied and studied for this test..............I received an 81.3%. It is a hard test.......study and you will do well. My advice, understand the concepts....not just definitions.
    Ideas to study..
Periodic table and how it is organized
Ion,ionic, covelant, ploar and non polar..chemical reactions and bonds..lots and lots
Every part of the cell...and how it works
Every detail of meiosis and mitosis
All body systems and what they do

The reading and grammer? Not too bad...just make sure you take your time and read carefully.
    Goooooooood LUUUUUCk!

    Hi guys,
I'm taking the TEAS V in a few weeks and I'm kinda nervous about the test. Is there anyone that's taken it already and can tell me a little about the math section? Does anyone know if you have to memorize the conversions for pounds, ounces, pints, meters, etc? Or do they give you the conversions?

Any advice would be really helpful!! Thanks!!

The math stuff is pretty basic. Study the ATI manual. It does a great job of breaking it down. There were quite a few percentage problems. I saw one or two questions about conversions. They will give you the conversions in the actual problem, so you don't need to worry about that. The only thing you would have to worry about is knowing how to utilize the conversion.

    Best of luck!
