Nursing Students SRNA

How is their program - I want to hear especially from those who study or have studied there. They are supposed to have the second oldest CRNA program in the country.

I really want to go there since it is nearby and I will probably be getting my BSN there after finishing my RN, but I am also thinking of UofM Flint.

NOBODY here has gone to or is going to Wayne State???

WOW! That alone is bothering me. The SNRAs who go to Oakland University/Beaumont - did you consider Wayne State? What are the main differences (tuition wise etc)?

WSU is the best school in MI. It has an excellent reputation in preparing students better than any other program in the Detroit area. One of Wayne's strong points includes its large number of clinical sites throughout Detroit. Some schools (Oakland, UDM, MSU) have a very limited number of sites. The WSU professors are very intelligent and experienced individuals who want to see you succeed; unlike other programs who don't believe in giving second chances. U of M is also a good school with a strong reputation. As for Oakland....MSN degree so be prepared to take nursing theory courses and deal with surgeons (Beaumont) who think they are better than you.

I appreciate your feedback. Would you elaborate on the above point - MSN degree... Isn't the WSU program also a MSN degree?

Just trying to make sure I'm not missing something here.

All of the CRNA schools in Detroit, MI are masters of SCIENCE except for Oakland/Beaumont which is a masters of science IN NURSING. This means that you will have to take extra classes similar to ones you took in nursing school such as nursing theory classes if you are in the Beaumont program. :no:

Lots of bad information here. OU isn't the only MSN program in Michigan. MSU also has their anesthesia program granting a MSN & what's so bad about that anyway? Remember in CRNA, the middle 2 letters mean Registered Nurse!!!! Also, OU has alot of hospitals that students rotate too, like 15 -18 in total. They have hospitals in the Upper Penninsula, Traverse City, Kalamazoo and places where CRNAs practice independently. Crabby surgeons are eveywhere - accept that. It's also the highest ranked program in the state.
