Paid during the clinicals?

Hello....I was wondering if any of the sites that the SRNA works at offer any pay/stipend while they are in training? It's one of those rumors going around, and you know how that goes! Thanks!

I only know of Baylor in Houston that has a $300 stipend per month for every SRNA while in the last 24 months of the program. It's listed on the website.

I've never heard of any clinical site that pays the SRNAs. I have heard about anesthesia groups that will give a potential employee some money during school in exchange for a committment when they get out though.

I would think that paying a clinical student while teaching them would be kind of getting close to the edge of legality...just my opinion.

The only stipends I know to be true are SRNA's who have signed work agreements with specific hospitals/groups. That hospital or group provides the stipend in return for a work commitment. For example my hospital offers this "scholarship" option to current critical care employees only - 800.00 per month stipend during school, they pay all tuition and books in return for 5 year work commitment. I believe that all of your clinical work/rotations is of the "freebie help" type. Just like it was in RN school.

I believe all three schools I applied to provide a small stipend during clinicals. It is paid by the school, not the clinical site, and there is no commitment involved. It is considered taxable income.

Stipends have largely become a thing of the past. When I first looked into becoming a CRNA, about half of the programs in my area paid monthly stipends. As health care funds got scarcer, they were replaced with stipends in lieu of a sign-on bonus if you hired on at that clinical site after graduation, or a loan if you chose to go elsewhere.

I think it would be similar to paying residents, after all we are licensed RN's.

Three clinical sites from TWU offers clinical stipend not much but good enough. Colton, VA in Dallas and Dener Health.

Just a clarification: these are stipends, not a salary. They are not paid for doing the work of a CRNA. They are not getting close to any edge of legality.

I am currently at Baylor, we do get a 300 stipend. From what I understand one of the hospitals we do clinicals at is funding it.
