Not good in chemistry-Any good chance in surviving CRNA school?

I am looking into becoming a CRNA, or at least hoping, but the thought of chemistry scares me:banghead:. I only had one chemistry course in my ADN program and received a B+. That was almost five years ago. I think with a tutor and a study group I can maintain. But how drastic is the science in CRNA school? Is it impossible to get through if you are not that good in this subject?

A B+ isn't too horrible for Chemistry! I did worse than you! I never took Chem in highschool and I didn't take the recommended Intro to Chemistry; I just took General Chemistry. I had an A up until the final, but I don't think I was mentally prepared for it. I ended up with a B in the class.

I felt like Chemistry was a second language or something - in order to succeed in it, there is a lot of effort, memorization and brushing up on old math skills required.

I'm not sure how Chemistry involves CRNA school, as I'm still taking my pre-reqs for nursing! :( But I'd like to think that you didn't do bad at all! Just keep your head up and if you want it enough, you will do fine! Good luck to you :)

I was not that great in Chemistry in HS or undergrad, however I took the opportunity to tackle my weakness when I decided to attend CRNA school. Before applying to school, I took a Biochem and organic chem class ALONE...with no other classes so that I could focus only on chemistry.

Also, because I know what my weaknesses are, I chose a Masters in Nursing program ( less sciences required) instead of a Master's in Science ( more sciences required).

No Problem. I took NO chemistry in High School. The only chemistry that I have had was a 3 week course at a community college. The only reason that I took that course was to apply to Samford University. I got an A in the class, but I can't tell you if I learned much. I didn't sleep for 3 weeks b/c I worked all night, and schooled all day.

Anyway, I'm halfway through my didactics. There is been minimal chemistry involved with all of the drugs and gases. Physics is probably more important than chemistry. You will be fine.

Well, this thread is currently very relevant to me. Here's my story- former paramedic, current BSN student (3 more semesters to go), B in General Chem 1 and am currently exposing my very masochistic self by taking Chem 2 this SUMMER with the idea of making myself look more attractive once I begin to apply to CRNA schools. It's not that I can't "get" chemistry but, boy, I wonder some days if I'll make it through without first suffering an MI or a stroke.

Am I smart or stupid?
