LPN ICU experience

Could someone tell me if ICU experienced gained as an LPN would count towards the ICU experience requirements?

I'm not for sure, but my understanding is that all your qualifying experience should be as an RN. I may be wrong. However, consider your competitors' experience and qualifications.

It should count. Most places no longer allow LVN's to practice in critical care settings, but when I was an ICU RN there were a few LVN's grandfathered in who knew their stuff. Just remember all of your experiences in life count in making you what you are now. All will contribute.

I would suggest calling the individual school you plan to apply to & ask them directly. That's the safest bet....

I tend to think it would not count, b/c as an LPN your limited in what your allowed to do. In Ohio (Cleveland area), some hospitals still have LPN's in their units, but the LPN license does not allow for titrating drips, drawing blood from central lines, hanging the first ordered bag of IVF's, hanging IVPB that will be infused via TLC. But like someone suggested, I would call the school your interested in. They might take it into consideration if you also have RN-ICU experience. Good luck!! :clown:

The reason I am asking is because I am considering doing a program that let's you get your LPN the first year and RN the second year. I could work my second year of school as an LPN while I'm getting my RN.

I would tend to agree with the others that it would not count if you aren't fully functioning in ICU. Where I was our LVN's did everything. Best of luck
