Hello, is anybody interviewing or has interviewed for Barry University's CRNA program for Jan 2012 entry?

I would like to talk to some people that have or will be.

I interviewed for Barry in June. The interview consisted of a financial aid presentation, the chemistry/ critical care quiz, and the personal interview. The interview is very laid back.. why you want to be a crna, why Barry, have you shadowed, how have you prepared to enter the program... I was not asked any clinical questions. The quiz consisted of general chem, organic chem, and critical care questions...reviewing basic concepts (such as naming etc.) may help prepare you. However, I have heard that performance on the quiz does not influence admission to the program.

All I know about the clinical sights I have learned from different forums. I read one thread (I don't remember where) that went into detail about the Tampa clinical sights. It sounded like people were pretty happy with their experiences in Tampa. The only bad thing brought up by the posters was the fact that their isn't a level 1 trauma center among them. However St. Joseph's is a level 2 trauma center and I would imagine that it gets some pretty good cases.

I have searched for rentals a ton near all five classroom locations. By far the cheapest location is Ocala. However the crime rate there is pretty small for a small town so I don't know about how safe it is.

1.5 yrs ICU at start of program, GPA 3.6, Org I/II, Biochem, GRE 1140, Paramedic for 15 years, ACLS, PALS.

I bombed gre:crying2::crying2:taking again in 5 weeks. should i take grad level courses? taking chem and stats next month

Need at least 1000 for most schools. Grad level courses would help, just depends on what they are. Get your basics, do well, get your experience, do well, CCRN which will help, shadow and get some good letters of recommendation. Get your chem above gen chem if you can (organics). Show some desire and initiative/motivation and keep applying. Each part of what I listed above is only a piece of the puzzle in itself, if you are lacking in one area you can certainly make up in others, but I think the GRE at 1000 is a minimum.

GRE 590 verbal 710 quantitative. GPA 3.6 BS-exercise science, BSN, TNCC, ACLS, PALS, 1.5 years experience in ICU at program start.

Hey guys! I just found out last week I was accepted to Barry to start in Jan 2012. I am really nervous about which site I will get... I currently live in Tampa and picked Tampa as my first choice. I've made a couple calls to Barry to find out which campus I will be at and I am being told I wont know for sure until November! I think they take 16 people for Tampa so I am really worried as this could be a deal breaker. The other problem is that I have been accepted to another program that starts October 3rd so I kind of need to know with some certainty that I will be able to stay in Tampa if I skip out on the other program. Is there anyone currently at the Tampa campus that can tell me how hard it is to get Tampa or any suggestions on how I could secure a spot there??

Like some other people who posted on this site, I too have an interview on August 22, for Barry's CRNA program beginning in January. I'm extremely nervous about the quiz portion of the interview. I will have just over a year of ICU experience in January (7 months Medical, 6 months Trauma). What sorts of clinical and chemistry questions do they ask on the quiz? I took various chemistry courses, but that was 6 years ago. Should I just brush up on basic general and organic chemistry information? And possibly review some CCRN stuff? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

For those of you recently accepted was there any word of when paperwork needs to start being filled out? I am curious so I can tell my employer I am resigning and I want to make sure all the paperwork is in order before I do that. I know we find out in November our clinical assignments (unless you picked Orlando in which you are almost guaranteed that as your first pick), but I didn't know of when other paperwork/info comes.

Regarding the test it was pretty straight forward and my understanding is that it is more for where you stand and not necessarily a determinant for acceptance. They tell you in the meeting they know who you are by your file, they just want a name and personality with the paper. Study some basic nomenclature, basic acls and treatments, and some basic chemistry and you should be fine. If you don't know your chemistry now, you can't teach everything they can possibly ask you in a month. Plus, there is a great post already regarding the test that is pretty in depth, so search a bit for it and you will find it.
