Is it possible to get a CRNA certificate after FPN ...?

Nursing Students SRNA

I am looking into advanced practice nursing and am torn between FPN and CRNA programs. I was wondering if it is possible to get a masters degree in FPN then do a CRNA certificate.....or would I have to get a masters in CRNA as well....? How does that work exactly??? Does anyone have any ideas or information for me???? thanks in advance

You would have to look into the colleges you specifically want to apply to for that info. Some have CRNA as post-masters certificates while others do not and it would be a msn degree. Is FPN some sort of NP program? If you're unsure which type of advance practice you want to go into, I would suggest finding APNs to shadow in each area and do some research to find which you would prefer. Then concentrate on schooling for that particular advanced practice- good luck.

Ditto.

There's really no easy road to get done with your classes that I'm aware of. I assume you mean family nurse practitioner. If you go to a program that awards you a MSN with focus in FNP and you then went to nurse anesthesia you probably wouldn't have to take the MSN courses like research, stats, theory, etc... However there are still a lot of heavy courses, you will probably be required to retake A&P, and you'll still have to take all the anesthesia related courses. I don't really think it would help you get done with many classes and you will end up spending much more money. If you want to take some classes to get done then contact the school you intend to go to and ask what classes you can take prior to entering the program. Also bear in mind that if you want to retain your FNP license after CRNA school that you will be completing the continuing education credits for two different specialties.

I'm so sorry...I meant FNP...whoops.....but I have read a program that Columbia University offers for a post-masters certificate for CRNA....I also found Post masters certs for FNP at Rush Universtiy in Chicago.....I think my heart is aiming towards being a FNP tho....I love working with people and the contact and time spent listening to them......did we know there is also a DNP.....how cool is that.....!!!!!! thanks for the replys!
