I currently attend Case. I just started this fall. My GPA was 3.1, GRE a little over 1000 and I had 10yrs of ICU and ER experience. They want letters from people like nurse managers and educators you have worked with. The interview was not too bad. I had very few clinical questions. They wanted to know the standard, why you want to do it, why should they pick you, what makes you think you can do this, what do you see as your biggest challenge, tell me about your day in the OR, stuff like that. They want to know you are motivated.

I have heard about Akron and their inteview process is very brutal. I also heard they didn't fill all their slots because they didn't think they had enough qualified candidates. You will have to take a huge critical care exam the day of your interview and then get drilled on what you missed. Good luck to you and feel free to PM me about Case if you like. I am loving every minute of it!!

I've heard akrons interview process is really hard...kind of out of proportion with their actual program, which (from what i've heard from different people) is so-so

I was accepted into Case (my first choice) for august 2008 - they had no clinical CCRN type questions. as the previous poster stated, it was general questions...do a search and you'll see what kind of questions they ask.

IMO, Case Western is a much better program - they have huge access to cleveland clinic/university hospital......which translates into excellent clinical experiences.

GRE: 1350

Grad GPA 4.0, undergrad GPA 2.9

Letters from supervisors and undergrad instructors

i have my CCRN, etc

Congrats on getting into Case! It's an awesome program and I love it. If you are wondering where to do your clinicals at, I am at the Cleveland Clinic. All the CRNA's are awesome and we have no problem getting OR time. The Summa people have had some bad experiences with some of the CRNA's at one of the hospitals they go to, and the University people have to contend with the AA's and anesthesia residents at UH. I have nothing but great things to say about clinicals at the Clinic. They are awesome! Again, congrats and see you next year!!

glad to hear it!

I chose Cleveland Clinic as my clinical site :-D

I'm incredibly excited about starting next year.

Hey, Zozzy, do you have any advice for what I should be doing now? like should I take a core MSN class like research or something to get it out of the way? Or should I just work extra at work and save up the $$$

Burnt2- I tried to PM you, but for some reason it won't work. Some people took some of the core classes ahead of time but most of us didn't. There are pros and cons to each one. The biggest problem is that those that took them don't get as much financial aid and I think it makes it look like you aren't in school full time. And you are going to need all the financial aid you can get. The core classes are taken in the intensive format. So next August, you will take one class and go 6 days straight all day, and then be done with 3 credit hours. Then in January you take another, same thing. Once you get to your last year of school, you are only in clinical, no classes. And you are only enrolled in 1 credit hour, so no financial aid. I would work and save as much as possible. And enjoy your life until next year, take a big vacation before school starts because your life will be over!! LOL, ok you will have some time, but not much. Your going to love it! If it will work, you can pm me and I can give you my regular email address.

Burnt2 - what is your undergraduate and graduate degrees in? I am currently a psychology major planning to enter an accelerated BSN program. My cumulative GPA will be around a 3.1 so I am worried about being accepted to both the BSN program and a CRNA program because of how competitive they are.

Would a 3.8-4.0 in my BSN "make up" for a low first degree GPA along with a high GRE score and good LORs? I am so used to the medical school admissions process where if you don't have that high GPA you are virtually screwed :)

hey foreverLaur,

my undergrad was a BSN - for the first few years I really didn't put much effort into school, so my GPA was

Once I decided to go to CRNA school I took 12 credits of graduate human physiology classes, got a 4.0. I didn't do a graduate degree.

Absolutely you could do it. your GPA is fine, especially if you get the 3.8-4.0. do extra stuff like your CCRN, hospital committees, etc. If you want it bad enough, you'll get in.

BSN programs are easier than you think to get into. Especially since you already have a psych degree, i don't think it will be hard for you to get into an accelerated program. Like you said, just focus on getting better grades in undergrad.

I am guessing that CCRN is critical care registered nurse? What are the eligibility requirements to sit for that exam?

Thanks for the info and encouragement :)

zozzy777,

I am currently a senior at Hiram College BSN program and am looking foward to working my way towards becoming a CRNA. I work at Metro hospital CICU-SD as a CA and will be transitioning to ICU within the next few months. I was wondering if I could shadow you. I am shadowing a SRNA in the cardiothorasic unit at the Cleveland Clinic but I would like to shadow as many people as possible to really get a feel of what becoming/being a CRNA is all about. Thank you for your time and consideration. :)

hi, im going to get my bsn from chamberlain, which is both nlnac and ccne accredited. Do you think case or any other crna program is going to look down upon tht? or woould that be okay, and in your experience, do u know anyone that has been accepted from chamberlain?
