Are there any Army CRNA's that can help me with a dilemma? I'm currently in the process of putting my package in for AD direct accession. I have my BSN and 3+ years as a critical care nurse in a large research hospital. Here's my problem. I want to apply to the Fort Sam Houston CRNA program but I'm not sure which path to take. Should I wait on my commission and apply directly to the CRNA program for class 2011 or should I go ahead and get my foot in the door with the Army and apply once I get time on station? I worry about the "red tape" once I'm in and not being able to go because of deployments or command not letting me go. ANY ADVICE WOULD BE SOOOO APPRECIATED!!!!

Go Army Reserve as a commissioned officer. Then make it very well know your plans to attend AMEDD CRNA school. Get into CRNA school. As a SRNA you are active duty, but not deployable. Average length of time for an active duty nurse trying to go to CRNA school is like 5 years b/c of schedules and pending deployments. In the reserves you have so much more control over things, better bonuses, ability to rank even faster, and stay critical care in hospital till AMEDD, etc...

Find you states health care AMEDD recruiter. They will walk you through everything!

The procress is multifold, as a "direct accession" (meaning you are not Active duty prior to the program).

You need to speak with a recruiter (healthcare) first.

There are many threads on this subject if you search this website (military health forum) and other websites (google nursing anesthesia...... they have military nursing forums too).

Anyhooo,

You will need to go to the USAGPAN website. There is a download explaining the process. It is pretty straight forward.

1. You will apply for Active duty, and take the commission only if accepted into the USAGPAN program.

2. At the same time, you will apply (online) to Northeastern University CRNA military program.........just follow their instructions.

3. You will interview at a phase II Army Medical facility to get a letter of recommendation from the Director.

4. You will attend OBLC prior to the start of the Army CRNA program (June 15 2010).

Thats about all.

I am in this program now, it is WONDERFUL. They are paying me to go to school fulltime!!!
