Hi, just wondering if there are any Michigan SRNA's on this site. Interested in knowing what school you are going to? Was it very competitive to get into?

I am asking because, I know someone who decided to apply for the CRNA program and no one in Michigan would accept her, she was a minority, her husband was also an RN and they a young child. Her grade point average was a 3.8gpa and she had 5 years in the icu. She worked 60hours for year and saved a lot to prepare herself and her family for school, but still no one accepted her? She applied in Florida and was accepted this year and they relocated a month ago. I hope when I begin to apply its not that hard to get in where you may have to relocate. I find it very difficult to just up and move like that, especially when you have a family.

Im an SRNA in Michigan and it is extremely competitive here. There are hundreds of people applying to 4 programs here in the Detroit area each year and only 20-30 people accepted per program. I'm not so sure why it is so hard to get into CRNA schools in MI; but I know of several people that I work with who applied in Florida and got in and made the move. It seems like Florida is really relaxed about accepting students. I had a friend who was accepted with barely a year of experience somewhere in Florida.

Wow.. I live in Michigan, and I would love not to relocate! This is sad news for me.. but it only means that I need to try harder! Do you have any better odds if you graduate with your BSN from the college that you apply for for the SRNA? (ie. OU, WSU, MS)

Thanks for the reply. How do you like the program? Was it hard to get into WSU's program (assuming by your name)?

The most important thing is getting your face out there and meeting the right people. Shadow with each school in your area and meet all of the clinical professors that you shadow with. One CRNA once told me that, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease." Shadow several times so that people recognize your face and see that you are serious about school. The professors that you meet while shadowing will probably be the ones that hold the interviews for their school. That means that they will be pulling for you if they like you and they know how much effort you have put in. Don't forget that you need to look good on paper!

That's a good question!
