Any Samuel Merrit Students Out There?

Trying to apply for the Fall 2008 class and was wondering if anyone would be kind enough to let me know either what they or their classmates GPA, GRE, and experience were or an overall average before getting accepted. Just trying to determine if I am competitive enough to even apply or make it to the interview stage.

I start Samuel Merritt's program this fall and have several close friends that started Fall '06.

I'll have over 5 years of high acuity ICU work, mainly Vascular/Trauma SICU, Cardiac Surgery ICU.

GRE 1100 (580 math, 520 verbal) and 4.5 on the writing.

GPA--This is kind of foggy. I'm not sure about my total GPA. If you count my first bachelor's degree, by my calculations, my GPA is right around a 3.0. If you only count my BSN grades, it's 3.9ish, graduated Magna cum laude.

Have my CCRN, did some house supervisor work, a few extras during my college years such as Honor's Anatomy, TA for labs in Anatomy, Physio, and Microbiology. Graded exams in Anatomy and Physio.

A big congratulations on your acceptance to Samuel Merritt. I know this much such a relief to know that you are in and where you will be going after that long application and interview process. You must be so excited?

Thank you for responding to my question and with so much information. This totally helps alot. I've been searching all over for ppl from Samuel Merritt.

Do you know how your class or other class census turned out to be? Female to male ratio? From California vs out of state? Also heard that Samuel Merritt prefers ppl from within the Kaiser system, is this true?

If you are interested in the school you should call the Program Director. She is great and can guide you through your profile. The sim lab and clinicals are great. Lotsa regional, line placement and support from the faculty. I am in the class that is graduating in 2008.

My classmates range from 25-55 years old. GRE scores in the 1100 range and average gpa for the class is 3.75. Alot of us had to retake courses to meet the 5 year requirement that course need to be current which helps GPA. PM me for more info...I love it here!

I have been a nurse for 10 years Flight CCU Burn Trauma...some have been a nurse for just a few years. Everyone has something to offer. A phone call never hurts! GOOD LUCK!

I'm not sure what my class make-up will be. I know of a few people that are from out of state. Consider the cost of living and the cost of tutition, you pretty much have to want to live in the Bay Area or surrounding area. Some of the most expensive real estate in the country.

As far as preferences for kaiser, somebody has been telling tales.

Congrats on the acceptance, UCDSICURN. I'm sure you'll love going to school there. Wish me luck, too, though... I just finished my 1st year at CSUS (w/ a 4.0 nonetheless), and although I didn't get hired as an extern at UCD, I will keep trying.

I just found this post...I'm hoping you're still on here. I have a few questions regarding the program? I've done my research and found the classes that I'll still need to take to get into their program. I'm applying to both their ELMSN-FNP program as well as their ABSN program. My first choice is ELMSN-FNP. Anyways, I was hoping to find some student's who've graduated from SMC's Oakland and Sacramento Campuses. Anyone out there will to share their experiences about the school/program? Is there quite a difference between the two? I've heard Oakland is more resourceful, instructors are there 24/7 to help you out. Is that true? I want to make sure I choose the best of the two. Thanks in advance! Good luck to you all.

As a side note, I hope to one day become an FNP and specialize somewhere in Women's Health or Pediatrics. I graduated with a degree Biopsychology from UCSB. And I'm hoping to fulfill my dream to become an FNP for underserved communities, preferrably in a small, clinical, public health setting. Hope this helps you paint a picture on my ideals.
