Found out that I'm in at Akron.. need to let them know within 10 days from now if I accept... IS there any negatives to this program that anyone knows about?? Interview was different and short.... Kind of waiting on my home state schools (michigan).... Decisions, decisions...

JC,

Are they asking for a matriculation fee with your acceptance? If not...accept!!! You can always change your mind. If so, then decide whether it is worth the $ (consider it an insurance policy) to hold your spot. If you get in somewhere cheaper or closer to home then it will have been money well spent. I did the very same type of thing last year--I was accepted @ UC (far and away my first choice) and @ Westminster in Salt Lake (where I lived at the time). UC charged no matriculation fee and wanted an answer in early Dec. Westminster did not accept students until March or so. My wife was pregnant with a high-risk pregnancy at the time so I could not commit to the move to Cincy. The baby turned out fine but I kept that line in the water until they absolutely wanted an answer in Salt Lake. I politely told them I had other plans and got my wish anyway. You have to play the system. I have a buddy who got in early to Charleston, WV while he had like 2-3 other apps pending and he faced the same debacle. He paid the fee, waited, and did not get in anywhere else. He was glad bit on the first one.

there is no matriculation fee that i know of so far at akron.... i'm interviewing at UC at the end of Nov.. I might just send my acceptance letter and see how the other schools play out.... Like I said I rather stay in state right now (michigan). I'm waiting on 2 other schools in MI right now. Thanks for the help!

Once you have made your decision, please immediately notify them if you choose to not attend their program. Most programs turn away qualified applicants and have waiting lists, it is only professional to let the program know if you won't be attending so that they can go to the alternate list. Anthesia is a small world and you never know how just not showing up the first day could come back to haunt you in the future. Same for interviews, if you accept an interview, then decide against going, let them know. Don't just be a no show.

Congradulations! but please take the time to immediately notify programs that you choose to not attend. Most have waiting lists, and that will allow them to offer the opportunity to another qualified applicant. Same for interviews, if you accept an interview and decide to not attend it, then notify the program ASAP. Anesthesia is a small world, and you never know when you'll run into someone again.

I believe that Akron had a significant number of board failures last year. Might want to check.
