Wannabe NP question

I am in school now, (pursuing a BSN) with the plan of eventually becoming an NP. I have a simple question though....

In my immediate area there are only 2 traditional NP programs. ( one costs a lot and the other has a high GPA reqmt so I probably will not be eligible to apply) I'd like to know if you can become an NP through distance based / online programs.

If so, what schools are recommended? Or does this not matter as long as the school is approved by the board of nursing for my state?

Are there any distance schools in CA that are flexible/ inexpensive and have a good reputation that anyone would recommend?

There are lots of good online schools. However generally all of them require a good GPA. As for specific schools, it depends on what type of NP you want to be. Not all schools offer all programs.

Id like to become an FNP. I guess it seems to be good to be true that one could do that program online post BSN, but I've read so many criticisms of online advanced practice programs that I thought there may be a program online.

There are plenty of reputable online or hybrid programs for FNPs. You should probably check with your state BON to see which schools they recognize. Then research each school to see which one is the best fit for you. You should consider cost of attendance, pass rates, on campus requirements, part time or full time enrollment, the school's reputation in the area you want to work, and how clinical sites and preceptors are vetted when making your choice.
