Vanderbilt Grad Entry 2013

Hey everyone!

This thread is for all of those out there who are planning on applying to one of Vanderbilt's MSN programs for Fall 2013. I'm starting to get my application packet together. I haven't started my interview survey questions and goal statement yet but I need to get on it. I need to take the GRE still though. Has anyone taken that? What did you get? Did you study? Harder than you thought?

Let's help each other get into their program!

Hi Amandy,Thanks so much for volunteering advice! Definitely a stressful process =)I am applying to as a pre-specialty student for the MHNP program. I'm very excited! However, I've read in other threads that applicants have been denied because their GRE quantitative score was too low, though the combined score was above the minimum, and I'm worried I should have retaken it--I've been so busy finishing prerequisites I didn't even think of it and now I'm afraid it is too late! I hoped you might know if other students have been admitted whose GRE quant score was lower than admissions was hoping for. I have a 580 on the verbal, 5.0 on analytical, but only 480 on quant (last time I took a class other than stats was in 1997 =). I have a 3.7 in prereqs, 3.93 for a BA in Communications and Social Science and a 3.59 from Duke for a Master of Divinity, 4 years counseling experience, one year clinical mental health experience, am bilingual and have lived and volunteered in Guatemala. Any information you have would be much appreciated!!

Sarah,

If I were you, I wouldn't bother taking the GRE again, or even stress about your scores! It seems like you are a very strong candidate and I think your education and international experience will outshine your GRE scores. I really believe the only time GRE scores matter are when they are really low or really really high. While they are weighted differently at different schools, the GREs are really just a formatlity and way to weed out some of the more unmotivated students before they even apply.

I think you should focus on your prerequisite and think positive! You got this :)

Thanks Hollysf! Hope you are right =)

Hello everyone!

I just discovered this thread, and submitted my application for Vanderbilt's FNP program for Fall 2013 start.

I hope that everyone is coming along in their application process fine if you have not already completed it :)

My GRE scores weren't the best, but I feel that I have other great things to offer:)

How is everyone feeling?! Does anyone know how many applicants and how many spots they have for FNP? I spoke with the school earlier this year and they told me an old statistic, but wasn't sure if anyone had heard anything else.

We should be notified end of Feb/ beginning of March, but I have heard of students getting letters at the end of December (a classmate of mine got his a few days after Christmas 2011!!)

mctlhunt- We are a bit in the same boat! We have similar GRE scores (which I am not too happy about :( ) But I will be graduating with my BSN very shorty! And same.... If God wants me there, then I will be there! How are you doing!? Have you heard any "gossip"? :)

Okay everyone, its December 2 which means they will start looking at the priority applications soon! Good Luck everyone. I am so nervous. I am pre-specialty AGPNP applicant FYI.

I agree. I hope everyone was able to submit they're application. If not, get 'er done! It's no fun waiting in anxiety for a response from the committee but at the same time I'm so pumped!

Let us know on here when you guys here back from Vanderbilt!

I am an AGPCNP applicant too. Just submitted my app last night!

So if I understand this correctly, we will get an email from Vanderbilt when our application is under review?

I think they send you an email confirming that the admissions counselor has all your documents ready for review (or to inform you that something is missing). Then it will be passed to the faculty for review.

When is the deadline - is it too late for me to apply?

Also - what about scholarships? Are those common for the MSN students? I'm looking into PMHNP but it's just so expensive!

The priority deadline was December first and I'm not sure when the final deadline is. I called the financial aid office and they said the average student gets enough loans scholarships and grants and other expenses. Vanderbilt is an expensive program but it is a fantastic school. and I hope to hea how everyone's app how everyone's applications are coming along or if they hear anything back from the admissions staff.
