Hello everyone - this is my second time applying. A month ago, I bombed the interview!

If this is your first time applying, there's a world of information from previous years, especially from the 2012 thread where we reached more than one thousand messages.

I know it's super early to start this thread, but this whole thing takes a long time to prepare and the more time we have before the deadline, the better.

I'm from the Seattle area, my background is Microbiology from the UW and I am again applying for the midwifery track.

ok, so in Janruary the school contacted us to give us a little idea of when more or less we would receive the news for the interview. I received my invitation to the interview on february 11 for midwifery and if I'm not mistaken I interviewed on february 25th. A lot of people received invitations and denial throughout that week. Again, everything was delayed at least one week because of the snowstorm, so I'm expecting things to go a week earlier. Hope that helps.

Calinca,

We finished our Obstetrics final yesterday. It was a doozy but now we are moving on to Pediatrics and Mental Health in January.

I thought of you when I was at Valley Medical doing my clinical and working with the midwives and L&D nurses.

You will be a great fit in the program and in the practice. Your dedication to entering this program and this field will certainly come to fruition and I look forward to seeing your smiling face at orientation next June.

If the school only realized what diligence you've shown in helping and comforting other applicants for the past couple of years you'd be a shoo-in.

Best of luck and happy holidays.

Cura, this was the best holiday wishes ever! :) Thanks you so much! I should frame it and put it on my tree. :)

I see Ali's and other's posts in my facebook so I was somewhat in the loop about what is going on. So nice of you to remember about the Valley! It will be interesting when I go there again, so many memories, from going to every appointment during my first pregnancy to finally delivering. I haven't been in Renton in a while, but every time I go to Ikea I have to look at the building and sigh. :) I honestly had not so good moments there, but I always remember the good parts.

I feel mentally prepared this time, I have a lot more confidence in myself this time around. It will be great to meet you!

Happy holidays to you and your family and have fun next quarter!

Everything's in!

Has anyone else applied to other schools? I was looking at a school in California, but I'm not sure I want to go that far. Seattle's my home, so I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot with applying to just one school.

Hello all! My name is Andrea I am a 2012 APNI Cohort Representative at Seattle University and I know exactly how all of you feel! I have started the Seattle University APNI 2013 group on Facebook. Please feel free to search for this group and request to be added. We will add any requests so that you can ask questions of current SU students and chat with each other. I wish you all the best of luck and please enjoy your holidays!

and who are you Cura te ipsum? I can't figure it out lol...

Thank you Andrea!!

I already asked to join the group!

Belated Thank you to Calinca -- I'm hoping I get in...... didn't realize it would take so long after application deadline to find out anything ;-)

Hey everyone, my name's Caleb and I'm new to the board but also applied for the 2013 program-good luck to us all! Anyone have any interviewing tips? (on the off-chance that we all get interviews!) From reading older posts, I know Calinca has been through the process but wasn't sure if anyone else had experience interviewing for grad schools/competitive jobs, etc...

Hi icelind -

These questions were posted by someone else on another board for a direct entry master's program so I can't take credit for them. However, I have had a couple interviews and they really helped me prepare. After going through the list of questions and answering them aloud I felt really confident going into my interview.

Only a few more weeks and we'll hear about interviews from SU! Good luck to all!

Why did you pick your specialty for the MSN?

What will you bring to the table for the MSN? (What skills/experiences will you bring to SU? How will you contribute to the class?)

Why not Med School? Why don't you want to be a doctor?

(At this point they will be looking for confidence, and they want to see that you definitely know this is the career for you. So have a great answer for the med school vs. nursing school)

Why not PA?

What have you done to prepare yourself for nursing school? (Talk about your volunteer work and research you did on the nursing

profession here, not class work, everyone did that.)

What qualities make a good RN?

Why did you apply to SU?

Do you like teamwork or to work on your own. (Say both, you like you to take personal responsibility for your actions and

contribution, but enjoy what can be done in teams. Nursing is all about teamwork, with other nurses and the MDs, techs, NPS

etc..)

What do you know about the demands of this program?

What do you do when you don't get along with the nurses on your floor?

What do you do if you do not agree with the nurse who is precepting you?

How will you keep yourself from burning out?

How do you know when you're being a good nurse?

Describe a situation where you've had to prioritize and organize a list of tasks

What do you bring to the profession of nursing?

What do you think the hardest thing about being a NP will be?

How do you handle adversity/challenges?

What do you think it will be like being in a master's program with people who have been working as nurses for years?

How do you handle competition?

Where do you see yourself in 5 years? 10 years?

Do you plan to do research or earn a PhD?

What do you think will be the most difficult thing about being a nurse?

How will you prioritize your day?

Describe an ethical conflict that you've gone through

Describe a frustrating experience at work and how you dealt with it

Describe your strengths and weaknesses.

How do you handle difference? Give an example.

Thank you so much salinn! I've been trying to collect my thoughts and find out what types of questions I should prepare for but this set of questions will definitely help me focus in more.
