Once you have completed your RN how much schooling is required to become a nurse practitioner?

You have to have your BSN also.

Then you complete your MSN in whatever specialty you want to go (family, adult, peds, mental health, acute care, etc.). This can take 2-3 years if you go full time. I went part time and it took 4 1/2 years.

Actually, you don't have to have your BSN. There are programs out there that bridge from RN to MSN. Some involve getting a BSn as part of the program, but don't require you to have it upfront.

Very true. I see that as just a more integrated BSN/MSN lol. But absolutely there are some schools who allow you to enter with only the RN.

Kind of wish I had done that with my MSN with the DNP but there weren't nearly as many DNP schools a few years ago as there are now.

I'll survive.
