Need Advice: Accepted into One School.. Waiting to Hear from Another

Hello all!

I would love to have some advice from all you aspiring grad students out there. I'm applying to 2 schools for the Adult NP program in Spring 2014. I was just accepted to school A which was my back up choice. School B is my first choice but since their application review is more extensive I won't hear from them until early Decemeber. The thing is School A needs a tuition deposit by November 11. I already called Enrollment Service at School A and they were not much help and didn't seem to care that I was waiting for another school's acceptance. So I need advice! What should I do? Send the check and wait for School B's acceptance (or denial)? (Then I would be losing 395$ if I get accepted to School B). BLAH!

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

how confident are you about your first choice, if you really want to start immediately and would want to start at your second choice if your first choice rejects you then I would say you have to take your chances and pay the fee so that you have a spot if your first choice does not accept you, you would hate to have given up the spot if that happens

Very true. It's a waste of money and not a waste of money at the same time. I have to call the school to see if the money is refundable or not.

Yeah I agree, should you not pay the deposit for School A which means you basically gave up your seat, then School B comes back as a denial or even pushes you to the next available term, you would be losing out on TWO seats versus a couple hundred bucks. I'm all for better safe than sorry =) I hope you get what you want, but just in case i'd pay the deposit myself!

I think keeping your seat and pay the deposit is the way to go. I was in a similar situation when I applied to NP programs a couple of years ago. I also applied to 2 schools and had a first and second choice. I heard from my 2nd choice school first and had about a week to give them an answer because the program orientation was starting 2 weeks after that. Fortunately I did not have to pay a deposit. However I was still waiting to hear from my first choice. I asked people I'm close to for advice about declining the first offer because I knew I would be accepted at my first choice. I was recommended to accept the seat and if I got into the other program then just not start class at the first school. Anyway, long story short, I accepted the seat and during my orientation I got a decline letter from my first choice. So I'm glad I made the choice I made because I would not be almost finished with my program.

that is the type of situation I would hate for the op to end up in, missing out on the seat they know that they can have now and then for whatever reason being declined from the second school, I would definitely not pass on the school that has accepted me until I had a definite acceptance from the other school
