DNP or no?! HELP

Hello friends!

I need some help/advice! I am currently a BSN RN with almost 6 years experience in several different areas, with women's health being my passion.

Has anyone gone the WHNP track and found it manageable with a job and children? I have a 1 year old. The program I'm specifically looking at is university of South Alabama WHNP-DNP program! Help!

Specializes in Emergency.

I know of many students at my school (Frontier) in the WHNP program who are doing full time school, full time jobs (even some with more than one job) and family. I also know some who would not recommend it, or who have cut back on either school or work, it is more a personal decision on how you and your family are willing to divide your time, there will be sacrifices one way or another.

I will also say several of my classmates have told me, that they waited until the time was right, but it never got better. Now they wish they had made the plunge earlier.

Good luck with whatever you decide...

I have three children, work 24 hours a week and attend full time FNP school, it is tough but doable. When clinical starts I'm sure I may have to drop to one day a week but until then it works. Everyone is different and handles it differently, I have a very big support system. I only work weekends and when my children are in school during the week I study and do my discussion threads and papers and reading.

Good luck!

Thanks so much for the input ladies! I work a clinic 8-5 now so I think it would be doable, at least until clinical start which will be a while!
