Can the new AGPCNP's work in an inpatient setting.

I am currently a AGNP student graduating soon. My entire nursing career has been in Neuroscience Nursing. For my specialty area for my AGNP degree I chose to complete it in Neurosurgery. My preceptor in an ANP with a huge background in Neuro. I plan to work in Neurosurgery once I graduate (I have already received a job offer from a Neurosurgeon). If I take the AGPCNP certification will I be practicing out of my scope? My job will be to see patients in clinic, round on hospital consults and on post-op patents doing admissions and transfer stuff. I will not be placing invasive lines or things like that. My surgeon is sending me to a RNFA class so I can help him in the OR but other than that I'll just be managing routine stuff : UTI's,HTN, DM, Pain, ect. Any patents that are in the ICU will have a critical care consult and my Neurosurgeon will round on them with me.

My program is an AGNP program. The certifications offered on the AANP are ANP, FNP, and AGNP-Primary Care. The ANP's and FNP's are prepared mostly in primary care as mush as I have been. Why did they stick a "primary care" on the AGNP. Its not on the FNP or ANP. Im wondering if I should just take the ANP exam so that "Primary care" is not tagged on to it. Should I do that? Or will I be ok with the AGPCNP cert? I'm in North Carolina and can't find much information on the BON website about this situation and with the AGPCNP certification being so new I don't know if it has even been brought up yet.

Hey! What did you end up deciding? I was in a similar boat, but the GA board did not pass the Consensus Model. After many conversations with the hospital i am employed by (who actually called and spoke with the board), I decided to go ahead with a job in EP Cardiology, though I am very nervous about the idea of going back AGAIN for ACNP certification later down the line if the rules do change. Just curious to see what people who faced a similar dilemma I did ended up doing!
