APEA vs FHEA

Hi everyone!

I took the Fitzgerald's review in March (3 months before residency). My instructor was wonderful!

So, I have read so many good things about the APEA course.

In fact, I got her CD's today. Amelie Hollier is really simply and to the point. So thankful I bought her CD's. They are a bit expensive, but really worth it in my opinion!

Has anyone else used the APEA CD's? Did you find them helpful? Thanks!

I did both Hollier and Fitz online reviews. I agree Hollier is definitely easier to listen to and more to the point. In addition to many others, her lecture on various forms of anemia was really great. Fitz is a little long-winded at times and includes material not needed for the exam but great for practice. Fitz has great lectures on birth control and heart murmurs included in the extra lectures towards the end of the course. I also have the 2014 Barkley CDs (had to skip over the JNC 7 guidelines) which I feel are the most comprehensive of the three as far as subject matter. For example, I had an exam question on Addison's disease and Barkley is the only one of these three that covered it. If I had to choose only one for the exam, I would probably choose Hollier. If I were looking for a review for actual practice, I would probably lean toward Fitz.

Thank you for your post. Did you take the AANP exam or ANCC? I am taking the AANP exam in 1 month. I am studying hard, but getting a little anxious too. Did you study from the Liek book at all? I think that book is also very helpful.

I graduated in August and passed the AANP Sept 17. I did the online Fitz and Hollier reviews initially and then the last week or two used Leik to focus my studies. I did take some APEA exams to see how I was doing and then did the AANP practice test a week or two before testing. Otherwise I focused on learning the material, not on answering questions. Fitz and Leik strategies for answering questions are great and the last few days I focused on Leik exam tips in each chapter.

It was sometimes difficult to keep anxiety under control; the amount of material to cover was overwhelming. For me, this is when Leik became very valuable because the book is organized well in outline format. As pointed out in other threads, Leik has a ton of typos. However, I found it was a great book to keep me focused as my test date came closer and my anxiety increased.
