Hey Guys!! Just wondering if anyone out there is attending MUSC DNP program for Fall 2011? I just found out today that I got in!! I'm in the FNP specialty. If anyone is going and would like to get acquainted, please reply to my post and we can exchange email addresses. If anyone is currently enrolled, where do students from out of state stay for orientation and required visits? Thanks!

Just wondering if any alternates hagve been contacted yet?

Hello OBluv19! I just found out yesterday that I've been accepted. I'm feeling very blessed and excited. I am also pursuing the FNP speciality. Please feel free to email me at [email protected]. :ancong!:

Question for you all - I posted a question about a BSN to DNP program a couple days ago and am wondering if you all have your master's already or are in a BSN to DNP program. Any reason for one or the other? I know there is talk of requiring the DNP in the future, but I plan to have graduated before that is estimated to happen. I'm getting close to 50 and although I am a life long learner, not sure I want to be a life long student :)

For me peronsally, I wanted to go ahead and get my "terminal" degree in nursing...personal goal. I am attending MUSC in the fall for the BSN to DNP program. We are awarded the MSN as well as DNP. I chose the family NP speciality. I know there is talk of all NP's by 2015 being required to have their DNP. Makes sense to just go ahead and get it done...but again, my personal choice. You are only 50...nowadays retiring at 56 is unheard of...you probably have another 20 years at least to work! lol Good luck with whichever route you go. :nurse::nurse::heartbeat:nurse::nurse:

Yay!! I found out yesterday that I got in too! Also for the family NP DNP specialty. Where does everyone live?

I was doing the math a couple months ago when thinking about going back to school and realized that I do indeed have another 20 years in me :) I am glad to find the BSN to DPN program - will have to check into it more thoroughly.

Is there anything practice wise that a DNP prepared FNP can do that at MSN prepared one can't (at least today?)

I don't think there is any clinical differentiation b/w what a DNP FNP can do and the MSN FNP. I know when I applied to UAB for the MSN FNP, it was going to take 3 years...in that same amount of time, I can get my DNP FNP at MUSC.:)

I noticed that :) Plus it seems the MSN programs are enrolling for a year or more out. I have missed MUSC's deadline and it looks like they enroll once a year. I really want to start asap, but still need to get that stats class out of the way.

Idont think there is much differance in regards to scope of practice...yet. I also wanted to get the terminal degree.I think the DNP is going to be the new norm in a few years and I wanted to complete it before it was a requirement.

Sorry! Just saw the question was already answered... this site doesn't come through correctly on my phone! Haha
