Advice for MSN, FNP Programs

Nursing Students NP Students

Hello everyone! I need some honest (HELPFUL) advice on applying for MSN programs. I have a 2.91 GPA overall from my BSN degree. Which is exactly 0.09 points lower than the 3.0 most schools require (I know you guys are smart and can do math but its so frustrating to be so close ). I have found a few schools, like Texas Women's University, that will accept students on a "provisional admission" basis with a GPA under 3.0. My question is what would you advise? Applying to a few schools because my GPA is so close, or raising my GPA with a few graduate classes? I do get automatic acceptance at the schools like Chamberlin, but I'm not sure that I want to attend a school like that. If you have any advice for me on schools like Chamberlin or Walden please give me any information that you have because I have received mixed information on attending a school like this. I'm not really sure what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I hear that some schools may accept you if you explain things like being more mature etc. In your admission statement. I had a 2.76. It limited my options greatly and I ended up at Walden University. So far I love it and my experience so far has been good. I started there in June.

I just graduated from TWU-Houston in August. I had a 4.0 gpa and could have gone to UT or many other colleges. If you can get accepted at TWU without repeating classes and you truly feel you are ready for graduate school, that is a good option. It is well-known and well-respected. Cost is about 20,000 all in. I passed the certification exam on the first try and currently have 2 job offers from my first 2 interviews. As with most graduate programs, your success will depend on the effort you put into it. Good luck.

Does this school's nursing program accept students who have a gpa lower than a 3.0? I must have missed this one somehow if it does!

TWU will still consider you with a GPA less than 3.0, but I am not sure how likely you are to be accepted.

Thanks for telling us your life story

Hi, just wondering how Walden University was. I'm researching FNP programs and ran across your thread. Would you recommend it?

I would not recommend Walden only because they do not provide much help with finding preceptors. If you can help it save yaself and go to a school that provides preceptors for u! It's been a definite headache for.me and many others with that.

Thank you so much for replying! This is not the first time I've heard about the struggle of finding a preceptor. I live in Austin so finding a preceptor will definitely be worse than in Houston.

I am sorry to hear about your difficulty. Good luck to you
