Hi,

I was called "out of the blue" for an interview tomorrow as a school nurse in a middle school. I applied months ago and had given up! I have an interview with the principal tomorrow and I have NO IDEA how I should prepare, what sort of questions do they ask? Any advise? I am a recent RN graduate, with no RN work experience. I would appreciate ANY input! Thanks!!!!

Read through the posts on this board. There are some threads if you scroll over a few pages on interview advice and job descriptions. Read the NASN web site: http://www.nasn.org See if your state organization is having an orientation this summer. Look on NASN website under affiliates - you could commit to attend. They are looking for someone who can work on their own, savvy interpersonnally with parents and teachers, team player, but also an independent professional, can respond to an emergency, keep kids in the classroom, think on their feet, understands developmental levels or middle schoolers, can identify injury patterns. They might expect you to each health class, which for middle school could be sex education, plus fitness, substance abuse etc. Ask if there will be a nurse elsewhere in the district you can call on with questions. Do not be afraid to say you do not know the answer to something, say where you would look it up or how you would find it. Middle schoolers are great - I hope you get the job - you will love it.
