What college is OCC? At many community colleges you can enroll on an 'ability to benefit' basis provided you pass the entrance exam showing you can take college level courses. If you don't do well on the test you will have to take some remedials first.

You mention that you are taking classes for your HS diploma at Penn Foster. This could be a problem since most colleges don't recognize this as a legitimate diploma. You're better off getting your GED since it is accepted by employers and colleges across the board. These online high schools feed on someones desire to have an actual diploma behind their name rather than a GED, but the problem is that as an adult the online diploma still tells employers you didn't finish traditional high school.. and what is more... since many of these so-called diplomas aren't legit it appears to a lot of employers you have neither.

Don't waist anymore time and money on Penn Foster. Get your GED and you'll never have to worry about high school again and can move on to the important stuff! The test is long, but not at all difficult. GED GED Study Guide overs a free online prep course. That is all you need!

Good luck.. let me know what school you're interested in and I can look into if it accepts students without a GED or diploma.

hi, THANK U SO MUCH,,so many ppl have been telling me that i wa wasting time there! im glad tht i have only been enrolled for 3weeks no so i paid 20 dollars down i told them i want to discontinue my education there and they said okai but i have to pay atleast 50 dollars for that month so i will just pay it and go take my GED,,i have been studying for it for a while now! so im prepared its just someone told me about penn foster and made it sound really good,,so i hurried to enrollment but i did my own research and i rather get me GED ,,i don't have time to waste at that school!,,im ready to start my nursing career ! Someone said getting a GED is a sign of giving up but im not at all a QUITTER! I just had a child so that put school on hold but im ready now and im not a quitter im just ready to start my career i dnt have time to waste in high school for possibly 1 year and a half! your advice really helped ! occ is okland community college in southfield ,,also my sister went to henry ford community college took her pre req classes with no diploma or GED but that was for criminal justice idk abt nursing,,

I looked a little into your CC and it seems that they have an open door policy allowing students to enroll without a diploma or GED. You do have to take placement test to see if they are going to put you into remedial classes. Also, they require you pass a BIO proficiency exam before you can enroll in A&P as well as Micro.. both likely to be prereqs. You should definitely go to an admissions councilor and get started on these tests so you can get any prep courses (if you need them) out of the way. You can probably do your GED there while you're doing everything else.:)

BTW- Everyone has their own reasons for not finishing high school- what you do with your life after high school matters 100% more than if you're holding a diploma or GED. There are plenty of high school grads that do nothing with their lives. That is giving up! Once you have a college degree, it isn't going to matter at all if you have a GED or diploma. It's like the old saying, "You're only as good as your last performance". It's true in education, work, life!

I am currently going to OCC and starting the nursing program this fall. When you begin classes, your diploma is not necessary. Of course any transcripts are needed to transfer classes, and it seems there are a couple classes that may require a highschool class as a prerequisite. In this case you would need to send in that. Even when applying for the actual programs, and diploma is not necessary, just a transcript. Even then, I dont believe it has to be an official transcript.

Also, FYI if you are planning on going into the nursing program, it is held only at the Highland Lakes Campus...I dont know how far away you live from there, I live about an hour away, but it is so impossible to get into any nursing program I decided the drive would be worth it
