BSN-RN job search in NY --- so rough!

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Hey all. I'm quite certain that no matter where you are trying to look for a job, it has been a rough one. I sympathize with you all and I am seeking advice.

I am a new grad RN. I graduated from an ADN program in May 2012 and the hospital job search was impossible. I earned my BSN in October 2013 and while I haven't received those instant rejection e-mails, I haven't got any calls for an interview either.

I have no experience outside of school clinicals and have strictly been looking for hospital positions. I have been advised that this is okay. If my means allow me to search for a hospital job, this path is fine. However, three months after graduation if I still have no work I'm going to look stagnant. I personally also just hate not applying any of my skills.

My dream is to be a bedside nurse in a hospital. And I've heard how the transition to a hospital from any other RN position is tough. So far it seems that I'll have to apply for any position and work my way to my dream position. Also, how do you guys feel about volunteering at a hospital?

Any advice would help. Thank you and good luck to everyone on the search. Optimism is key!

u fortunayely, that is the way it is in metropolitan areas, the supply is greater than the demand, rural community might have more opportunity. also and nursing skilk is better than none, you might want to consider home health or skilled LTC, patients are discharged with higher accuity.... I wish you luck, and congratulations on both your degrees

i get so many mixed reviews on whether working at a LTC facility is the right move but it does seem to be the best option. it also allows me to utilize nursing skills. thanks for the help!
