Hi- just received a notice from my current college( I am 3 classes away from finishing BSN) that I am eligible to apply for the MPH at the college, and can waive the references and letters based on my current GPA. This sounds like a great opportunity that I had not considered, as I really want to get away from hospital/bedside nursing.

I imagine having the nursing background is an asset. As we all know, there is no nursing shortage, which reflects the difficulty of new grads getting jobs. How is the job market for MPH's? Is it worth going ( and paying) for more schooling? I guess if it gets me away from bedside, then I guess it's worth it.

Should I shadow someone in the field?I don't want to make another mistake again( that being nursing).I will most likely be over 50 when I am done with this. Is there ageism in this field also? I would also be bringing 10 years worth of acute care nursing with me though.

Thanks for any advises/suggestions.

I graduated with my MPH last yr but there are no opportunities where I reside. Honestly, DC is the central locale for those seeking careers with their MPH. If I was in a dif stage in my life right now, I wld definitely move there bc I often feel it was a waste of time and $$ since I have not and probably will not be able to utilize it in the few yrs to come.
