Does anyone ever miss working in a hospital and especially 3 days a week, albeit 12 hr shifts?

I'm just curious. Personally, I'm burned out on hospital nursing.

Thanks, all. :nuke:

I'm a new grad with no experience so can't answer your question - but I'm curious - how many years have you worked on the floor? What unit?

I've been a nurse for 4 years, almost all of them on telemetry and/or stepdown. I'm very burned out and need a change. I'd like to see people BEFORE they get as bad as they do in the hospital.

I'm also just burned out on the hospital environment. Before I was a nurse, I was a cna and unit secretary for about 5 years-- so I haven't worked outside of a hospital for 9 years. Some days I miss those cubicles. LOL!

I went from tele to Ph back to tele. Both shifts have advantages. Working in Ph didnt leave me a physcially tired as now but it sure is different and as long as you like the slower pace, longer lunches, all weeekends off, holidays off; then you should be fine. :wink2:Seriously...the pace was so different that I did find myself craving for action. I think the pace of a busy tele unit is more my style. Working 12's is a killer, especially working 3-12's in a row like I just did. But i enjoy having 4 days off a week instead of 2. I feel like I can speand more time with the kids. You still get tired after 8hrs, just not the same. PH is also a challenge becasue it seems to be a popular place to cut money from. Friends lost jobs here. Make sure its budget is solid before you go. Good luck. If you have anymore ? just PM me.

Thanks for your reply, youknowho. :nuke:

Longer lunches, no weekends/holidays, and slower pace? Sign me up! LOL! It definitely sounds more like my cup of tea than the frenetic pace of the hospital. I'm so glad that there is the PH option. I'm currently awaiting certification from the state of CA and then after that, I'll be job hunting. I do realize that nothing pays as much as hospital/bedside nursing, but I would take a pay cut to get back my sanity, cut down on my stress (and back/body pains), and enjoy my work just a little bit.

I also really believe in preventative care and am sick to death of seeing frequent flier patients. I'd like to catch these folks before things get so out of hand.
