Hello.

Background:

I am a new graduate registered nurse with an associate degree. I just got my California RN license! I also just got admitted to an RN-to-BSN program at a state university! Also in two years my long-term boyfriend and I will get married and start a family!

Ultimate Career Goal:

I definitely plan to get my FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner, MSN) in the future at the same state university.

Ultimate Family Life Goal:

Marriage with one or two, at the most, is my family goal.

Likes About Nursing:

*Patient Teaching, Caring

*Preventative Care

*Serving the Underserved Population - Homeless, Ethnic Minorities

*Variety of Diagnoses

*Maintenance of Chronic Diseases

*Salary and Benefits - It does not have to be the highest paying job! Just

enough.

QUESTIONS:

Now that you understand my goals and interests, what do you think is the NURSING SPECIALTY that best fits my needs?

Any advice will be of help. I need this information to decide on WHERE I should practice for my first RN job. Thank you very much in advance.

Hi! Well, most of what you list sounds like you are a good fit for Public Health ... at least here in Spokane, Washington. It appears, however, the public health pays fairly low no matter where you live. After 15 years at my agency I am making only about $5 than a new grad in a hospital. However, I wouldn't trade the work I do for love nor money! During my years in public health I have had the opportunity for a tremendous amount of personal and professional growth and untold learning opportunities! Best of luck to you!

Thank you for your wisdom.... Good luck to you, as well, for your future endeavors.

Hello "Werkenovatyme":

I'm from California. Here, I need a BSN to practice Public Health Nursing. This is the reason why I am in a RN to BSN program currently. Also, I work on a Med-Surg floor. Soon as I get my BSN, I am going for Public Health! How about you?
