Hello out there.

I just came across this specialty (Psychiatric Epidemiology) and I must say, I am more than intrigued.

I am a second semester RN student, presently working in a hospital as administrative assistant for the Infection Prevention department. I love my job, as my bosses are experienced IP professionals, and my main boss has been in the field of Epidemiology for over 40 years. My experience with psych is vicarious - my mother was a VA associate director for many years, and is now an Instructor teaching psych nursing at a university.

I don't know why, but I think I would enjoy starting this path. I have seen a few programs, however they are post-doctoral and I don't plan on getting a PhD. I am going to get a DNP, and just want to figure out the most efficient route to this end goal.

Thoughts? Suggestions?

Thank you for this post. I find this field highly intriguing as well.

Have you considered an MPH degree from a school that offers a behavioral or mental health concencentration?

For example, I'm aware that the University of South Florida offers an MPH in Behavioral Health and the University of Florida offers a graduate certificate in Psychiatric Epidemiology (approx. 15 credits or so). I'm sure there are other MPH programs where you could customize a concentration in mental health. I'm currently looking at starting an online MPH soon, but haven't found an online program that offers this concentration.
