Hi all,

I've received a subpoena to testify in mental health court regarding one of the residents I work with. I've never had to do this before, could anyone here give me an idea on what to expect? Any advice?

My supervisor will go over case specific information with me before I go in, so I'm just looking for a general overview.

What is the court hearing for? I've sat in numerous psychiatric commitment hearings.

Court hearing was for involuntary commitment of one of my residents. He was completely decomped and a danger to himself and others. I was asked to testify because he'd made credible threats towards me. However the evening before the court date he agreed to voluntary hospitalization and I didn't have to go in. :-)

Glad that was avoided. Testifying for involuntary commitment hearings is a balance. On one side you need to make your points as to any dangers and concerns, but at the same time remain warm and caring as it's easy for the patient to feel as though you're working against them.
