Mental Health App

Hello everyone,

I am a software developer that is looking for a way to help others and would love to develop a web + mobile application as a non-profit project.

I am in the early stages of development, and would love input on how I can provide a tool that would help those with mental illness. I am looking to gather requirements from target audiences to put together an end goal of something that will be beneficial.

If you have any input or any ideas, I would love to hear it.

Thank you so much for your time.

Well, I'm intrigued. Can you private message me some information like what exactly you're looking for? I may not be able to help you, but may be able to help with other resources.

That is a great idea. As a patient myself, I am always interested in the results of the depression and anxiety questionnaires I fill out every few months when it's time for my therapist to update my care plan. It doesn't tell me much more than how I score on a depression and anxiety scale, comparatively between the date I filled the last one out and today.

What might be cool would be an app that can track people's symptoms, medications, and behaviors (both self care and symptomatic ones) and the app could give them a visual representations of their progress, like graph trends in their mood states, for example. People could correlate their lifestyle activities and medication usage with improvements and declines in their symptoms.

Thanks so much for your reply, I would love to private message you but unfortunately I do not have enough posts yet that unlocks that feature.

To explain a little further, I am looking to get a grasp on the following:

1) Is there a tool that can be either developed or improved upon that a patient with mental illness might see as beneficial towards them?

2) Is there a tool that can be either developed or improved upon that a psychiatric nurse would/does recommend to their patients?

3) Could there be a communication tool between nurse and patient that might be beneficial?

Moreover, I know that this question is entirely dependent on each individual but I would love to know:

1) Would a community where one could post their experiences anonymously be something of interest?

2) Would a tool that patients can use as individuals be preferred?

I would love to gather as much information as I can to give me a better idea of what is lacking or what can be improved upon.

Thanks so much, I hope this response provides a little more clarity. If there are any other questions you have, feel free to let me know.

Hi Zephyr, thanks so much for your response.

That sounds like a wonderful idea. If you have a spare minute (no rush), I have a few questions and I would love to find out more.

In regards to the questionnaires, are they the same ones that you fill out every few months? Or do they differ?

What type of questions are being asked? Is there a reference online that provides a full questionnaire?

Thank you again for your response and input, it is very much appreciated!

Thank you for the reply. I don't know how else I can get in contact with you other than posting information publically.

I don't know if anything like this exists. From what I understand, your target audience is the patient, correct? I understand you're still researching so if you don't know yet, that's fine. I am just trying to think from a patient's perspective, and not the nurse.

I did just a quick (10 second) internet search and found these: Best Mobile Apps for Psychiatric Nursing - Nursing Degree Guide

Some things off the top of my head for the consumer are medication reminders, appointment reminders, list of care providers, medication lists, and a database of resources. Wow, that sounds like a lot.

I don't know, I know I'm probably not helpful, but just really interested in where this could lead.
