Medicaid Provider (LPN)

Specialties Private Duty

Published

Good morning everyone,

I'm currently a LPN and going back to school for my RN, I was wondering if anyone has any information on how to become self employeed as a LPN. I want to become a Medicaid Provider, not sure if I can include Medicare, Tricare or other insurance companies. Your help on this matter would be much appreciated, hopefully, someone can lead me in the right direction; or give me a step by step play on how to get this done....

Also, could you hire CNA's to work under you to perform duties within their scope of practice.

Thank you all for your assistance on this matter.

Specializes in Complex pedi to LTC/SA & now a manager.

No CNAs/HHAs must be supervised by RNs in home health. You must have RN oversight to create and sign care plans submitted to physicians and insurance.

You need to specify your state. Most will not permit LPNs to practice & bill independently. All require RN oversight (or at least APN/MD/DO/DDS/DMD/DPM)

Okay, thank you. Trying to do my research and see what all I need to do to get started. I'm in Virginia so I will check with them, also, if you are a Independent Contractor is that the same as being a Medicaid Provider or different? Thanks in advance.

Not exactly. Many industries have independent contractors. Check the IRS website for definition. You must pay all employment taxes quarterly, you will be 7-15x the cost compared to a nurse that's employee by a company or agency.
