Worried "B" student...

  1. I am just getting started with my pre-reqs. I made B's in both A & P and Pathophysiology. 87% and 88% respectively. I feel that I have a pretty good grasp of the material although I didn't do as well as I hoped. I really studied, too! I should also mention I am 54 years of age and haven't taken a science course since the early 1980s. I am worried that my grades in these subjects won't be good enough for me to get into a BSN bridge program. Should I be?

When you say "BSN bridge program", do you mean you're going to complete an ADN at a community college and then do an RN-to-BSN bridge? Or do you mean you already have a bachelor's degree and you're going for a 2nd degree BSN program?

In any case, it depends on the BSN program in which you're trying to get accepted. Do they base admission solely on GPA? Or do they look at pre-req grades only? If you've got As in other subjects and only a few Bs, I wouldn't worry too much. Your best bet is to speak to an advisor for the nursing program.

I hear ya on trying to return to school. I'm 43 and prior to last June, had not taken a science course in almost 20 years. Once you get back into the swing of things, it starts coming back to you Don't get discouraged. I was just accepted into nursing school and I start in the Fall. You can do it!!!
