Trying to decide?

Hey!

I'm thinking of applying to the nursing program at Valencia College, but I'm a bit nervous. I have a history of passing out and I was hoping to avoid a clinical rotation in surgery/ER. Are these required?? I'm fine with needles and all of that but thinking about the ER/surgery gives me major anxiety.

Help? Is nursing for me? I'll take any advice I can get I love health science but I don't know what to do

I would recommend getting ahold of someone at the school of nursing there. There is usually an advisor of some sort that you can talk to about what clinical rotations your school does specifically. If an ER/surgery rotation is required then see what can be done or you may need to see if you can find a school that does not have that rotation. I am pre-nursing myself so I am not sure if every program requires the same rotations.

Nursing can still be for you. I believe that there are areas that do not deal with trauma. I would check out nursing.org and just google away to see what is out there that may interest you. A nursing advisor or even another student could again give you some pointers in this area as well! Don't give up hope until you have exhausted all resources. Best wishes!

I agree with the above advice to speak with an adviser about where your college places students for rotations. At my school there are options to see OR and ED but neither are required placements.

Also a history of passing out doesn't automatically mean you will do poorly in nursing school. I fainted a LOT when I was younger but haven't had any problem at all while in nursing school. You really don't know how you will or will not react until you try it.
