Traditional BSN Pre Nursing Students

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Just graduated high school and now I'm off to start pre-reqs at a public 4 year university. I've been admitted early to the program (provided that I pass all my pre-reqs and keep a 3.0). Anybody in a similar situation? I feel like there's a lot of non traditional students on here vs traditional ones :)

I'm in a somewhat similar situation. I'm a tradition freshman and also go to a public 4 year college. I wasn't admitted early into the program, I just declared BSN as my major. We have to finish the majority of our pre-reqs before applying to the program and all must be finished before we start. I'm taking 3 classes this summer (Psych, Soci, and Stats) and I've completed my first year of college. I still have to take A&P I and II, World Lit, Public Speaking, Introduction to Human Development, Microbiology, US History, and Perspectives on the Human Mind.

Even though they say you are eligible for admission with a 3.0, try to keep your GPA high (at least a 3.5). The lowest GPA accepted for last fall was a 3.4 at my college, I believe, but this will vary. You will also have to take an entrance test for admissions. I'm taking the HESI, but some schools take the TEAS or other exams.

My GPA is currently a 3.5, but I still have quite a few classes left to take.

Work hard and you'll make it! Good luck! :)

Sounds very similar to mine!!! If I wouldn't have been admitted early, I would have had to get a 3.8 GPA to be admitted (yikes) I'm taking stats this summer before college starts. I took college humanities through a duel credit program in high school (just a gen ed) I'm so nervous for next year!

That GPA sounds awfully high! Your school must be extremely competitive. Don't be too nervous, I personally like college much more than I did high school. I struggled in math during high school because my teachers were either not willing or not able to help me when I asked for it. Then I got to college and got an A in my Algebra class last semester. The college environment is much better. You're surrounded with a lot of adults who are actually there to learn instead of a lot of kids who don't take it seriously.

It definitely takes some getting used to. I would encourage you to use EVERY resource available to you (library, tutoring if you need it, etc.). Colleges have tons of resources to help you do well.

Haha yes it's a very competitive university!! I'm so glad you say that you like college more! I'm a very hard worker with good time management and I am excited to try to make the best of my resources. I also severely struggled with math in high school, no teachers were very helpful at all. I'm excited for a change!
