RN or CNA to LPN to RN

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Im sure this has been asked before but I could't find anything directly related to my scenerio. My local community college (maricopa) offers a direct entry ASN program once I complete the prerequisites (A&P1 - ENG 101 - CHM 130 and MAT 140). There is a 2 to 3 semester waitlist. They also offer a LPN program with the only prereq (CNA) that has an option for advanced placement into block 3 of RN program once completed which is about a 1 semester waitlist.

Anyway, my question is, since I wont be have all the prerequisites completed for about 3 semesters and then have to wait another 3 to begin, is there any benefit to going CNA - LPN - then RN later? I am considering this since I have a family and need an income high enough to support us. Has anyone else considered this or gone through this before?

On a side note, I am currently an EMT-B student and plan on getting a job as an ER Tech during school once I finish and get my license.

Thanks,

Ant

Take a look at the employment situation in your area. What is the job outlook & salaries for CNAs, LPNs and ER Techs? You may discover that ER Tech salaries are just about the same as CNAs, so that would be your best option. Also, explore the market for ADNs. In many areas of the country, hospitals are only hiring BSNs. It would be horrible to invest a lot of time, energy & money only to find that there are no jobs.

Wishing you all the best on your educational journey.
