Nursing school with 5 kids

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am just finishing up my pre-reqs to apply for nursing school (2 year ASN) to begin in the fall. I have 5 kids, my husband is incredibly supportive, but as the main breadwinner he is gone 6:30 am-6:30 pm. Am I crazy to think that I can swing nursing school as the main parent during the week? I get the kids up and on the bus, and my nursing school is an hour away. Not sure yet how clinicals will work, but assume I'll have 12+ hour days. I am a naturally good student, A's in A&P, micro etc. I do study, but it seems not as much as others I take classes with. I have little/no help as far as grandparents/extended family. Does anyone have any encouragement or "hell no don't do it" advice to give me?

a lot of schools have evening classes. My schools evening classes start between 6 and 6:30, and they end around nine.

As for clinicals, at my school we have the option have our clinicals during the week, or during the weekend. Many of the students who have children choose to do theirs over the weekend. & instead of 12 hr days they would do Fri-Sunday (4 hour days).

If you haven't already applied to nursing school yet, try to apply to a smaller school or community college, instead of a large university. The smaller schools usually cater to the needs of people who work & who have kids.

Good luck :) don't give up.
