How to tell if a school is a "for profit" school?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

I'm looking into accelerated BSN (or second degree BSN programs), as well as direct entry MSN level programs. Since they're both appealing to a lot of people, I can imagine that a lot of schools are trying to cash into this sudden increase of prospective nurses. I worry though, because there are some that don't provide adequate quality; they're basically just trying to extract as much money as possible from people.

What are some key words to look for on a school's website? Can I assume that just because a school is accredited, it's not a for-profit school?

I think all school are wanting to establish and increase profit it really just depends on the teachers not really the school urself..

You can go to CollegeBoard and look up potential schools. On the school's profile page, it will list the type of institution it is. If it says "proprietary," then it's a for-profit school.

Hope that helps.

I've been trying to sift out which RN to BSN online programs are "quality" but it's so hard because I keep seeing the same online universities on this site. So I'm doing my own research, but it hasn't got that far. All I found right now is this list from Wiki: List of for-profit universities and colleges - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Who knows if this is actually accurate. Hope this helps, good luck, too!
